Eugen Huthmacher (born February 18, 1907 in Kirchhellen ; † May 29, 1967 in Homburg ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After graduating from the humanistic grammar school in Beckum , Huthmacher began studying law in Innsbruck and Berlin , which he finished with the first state examination in 1933 and the second in 1936. He then worked as a managing director at the Reich Association of Colonial Goods and Delicatessen Traders in Berlin, which later became part of the retail, food and luxury goods business group. In this association he took over the management of the Saar-Palatinate district specialist group based in Saarbrücken in 1937 . Huthmacher took part in the Second World War as a soldier from 1943 to 1945 and was wounded on the Eastern Front in 1944. Shortly before the end of the war, he was captured by the United States, remained there until 1946 and was later transferred to French captivity.

After his release from captivity, Huthmacher joined the economic department of the Saarland Administrative Commission as a civil servant in 1947 , from which the Ministry of Economics later emerged. He was promoted to Ministerialrat in 1948 and after the formation of the Saarland government took over the management of the economics department in the state's Ministry of Economics, Transport and Agriculture. From 1951 to 1955, as ministerial director, he was the permanent representative of the Minister for Economic Affairs, Franz Ruland ( CVP ). In 1956 he was appointed director of the Ministry of Economics, Transport and Agriculture, where he was again representative of the Minister of Economic Affairs until 1960.

From 1960 until his death in 1967 Huthmacher was Minister of Economics in Saarland. He left a wife and five children. He was a member of the Catholic student associations AV Austria Innsbruck and KAV Suevia Berlin .

Political party

Huthmacher was initially independent and later joined the CDU.

MP

Huthmacher was a member of the Saarland Landtag from December 1960 to May 1967 . He had been a member of the German Bundestag since 1961. In parliament he represented the constituency of Saarbrücken-Stadt. On February 13, 1962, he resigned his Bundestag mandate, since he had previously been appointed Minister of Economic Affairs in the Saarland.

Public offices

After the referendum on the Saar Statute , Huthmacher took over the management of the Ministry of Economics, Transport, Food and Agriculture from October 29, 1955 to January 10, 1956 as well as the management of the Ministry of Public Works and Reconstruction in the interim government led by Prime Minister Heinrich Welsch .

Huthmacher was later a member of the state government again and on February 9, 1960 was appointed Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Agriculture to succeed Manfred Schäfer (CDU) in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Franz-Josef Röder (CDU). He held this office until his death. The FDP politician Reinhard Koch was appointed as his successor .
