Eugen Ludwig Hannibal von Delitz (born January 31, 1820 in Berlin , † March 22, 1888 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Eugen was the son of Ferdinand Eugen von Delitz (1787–1855) and his wife Adelheid, née Vogel von Falckenstein (1799–1880). His father was a Prussian Colonel a. D. in the 21st Infantry Regiment . Eugen von Delitz was a nephew of Berend Ludwig von Delitz .

Military career

Delitz had attended high school in Stargard in Western Pomerania and then the Kölln high school in Berlin . On April 1, 1839, he joined the Guard Rifle Battalion of the Prussian Army as a one-year volunteer . In 1840 he was assigned to the Second Lieutenant in the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment and in 1843 to the Combined Guard Reserve Battalion. In 1844 he practiced for five months in the rifle factory in Potsdam . At his own request he was released from the standing army in 1847 and assigned to the 2nd Battalion (Lissa) 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment. In 1848 he was subordinate to the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment during the campaign in Schleswig . In 1848 he took part in the campaign against Denmark. From May to September 1849 he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion (Koblenz) 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment. In 1849 he took part in the battles near Kirchheimbolanden , Neudorf and Kuppenheim during the Baden campaign.

Because Delitz had shown talent for drawing in the preparation of terrain sketches, he was employed in topographical departments, for example in Eilenburg and Lützen in 1849 . On May 11, 1852, he was promoted to prime lieutenant . In March 1853 Delitz was assigned to the topographical office in Querfurt and in October of the same year to the topographical office in Berlin. After he was promoted to captain on March 10, 1855 , he was posted to the Kadettenhaus in Berlin as a teacher on May 1 of the same year for a year . On August 15, 1859 he was transferred to the Guards Landwehr Tribe of the Landwehr Battalion Hamm. On February 10, 1863 he was promoted to major and appointed commander of Kaiser-Franz-Garde-Grenadier-Regiment No. 2.

During the war against Austria in 1866 Delitz took part in the battles at Soor and Alt Rognitz and the Battle of Königgrätz . On September 20, 1866 he was awarded the Order of the Crown III. Awarded class with swords. At the end of 1866 he became a lieutenant colonel . In the summer of 1869 he became a colonel and commander of the 2nd Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 15 . During the war against France in 1870/71 he was involved in the battles of Colombey (Iron Cross II. Class) and Gravelotte , in the siege of Metz and in the battles at Jussy, Mercy le Haut, Marrac, Marnay, Bryens and Vorges. In March 1871 he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class.

In October 1871 Delitz was promoted to commandant of Minden in Westphalia and in this position in 1873 to major general. On December 12, 1874, he retired from military service and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves.

In December 1882 Delitz became a member of the Board of Trustees of National Thanks for Invalids and deputy of the Board of Trustees for the late Major General Baron von Eberstein .

family

On June 29, 1845 Delitz had married to Sakrow Luise Schöning (1826-1902). The marriage resulted in two sons. Hans (1844–1870) died as a secondary lieutenant in a hospital in France from the consequences of injuries sustained at Le Bourget . His widow Alma Viktoria von Borcke (1847–1926) married the Prussian major general Karl von Plehwe . The second son (* 1855) had been in the Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 2 as a second lieutenant and later emigrated to Chile .
