The Jacob Sisters, 1965

The Jacob Sisters are a German singing ensemble in the pop music - they were the first girl group in German-language light music .

The pop singer group was originally a quartet with the siblings Johanna Jacob (* November 14, 1939; † November 25, 2015 in Offenbach am Main ), Rosi Jacob (* 1941), Eva Jacob (* June 8, 1943) and Hannelore Jacob (* November 14, 1944; † May 17, 2008 in Neu-Isenburg ). After Hannelore Jacob's death, but also occasionally in earlier times, the group appeared as a trio .

Live and act

The former consumer sales point in Schmannewitz (photo from February 9, 2020) was previously the Café Jacob , the first place where the Jacob Sisters performed when they were young as Schmannewitz Heidelerchen

The four siblings come from the village of Schmannewitz , a district of Dahlen , on the Dahlener Heide in the Free State of Saxony . They began their careers together as the Schmannewitzer Heidelerchen in their parents' Café Jacob in Schmannewitz. They later performed in and around Leipzig . They attended the Musikhochschule Weimar , moved to the Federal Republic in 1958 and continued their studies in Frankfurt am Main .

Here Lia Wöhr gave them an appearance on the television program Zum Blauen Bock . In 1963 they had their greatest success in Germany with the garden gnome march ( "Adelbert, Adelbert, give me a garden gnome ..." ), a cover version of the Billy Sanders title, which originally sang about an Adelheid in his march. At that time they called themselves the Jacob siblings . In 1966 they took part in the German Schlager Festival . Her title So ist ein Boy came in at number 8.

The Jacob Sisters in the mid-1960s

Their greatest international success was with appearances in Las Vegas and New York in the 1960s, where they performed with Louis Armstrong , Sammy Davis Jr. and Duke Ellington . Since then they have been calling themselves Jacob Sisters . Since 1960, they have been accompanied by white poodles , which have become their trademark.

At the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s, they appeared several times as star guests in the Madame Lothár Theater in Bremen , where they also took part in a gala show in June 2002 on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the theater.

In the entertainment program of television and radio , they were often involved, especially in folk music programs such as the TV series Feste der Volksmusik ( ARD ), Lieder are the best friends ( Bayerischer Rundfunk ) and Musikantenstadl (joint production ORF , ARD and SF ); but also in many individual programs, gala and New Year's Eve shows, for example in comedy programs like Schmidtanders and in talk shows like Sellemols: The Jacob-Sisters in SR in May 2007.

On the night of May 17, 2008, Hannelore Jacob died of heart failure due to pneumonia . The funeral took place at the Buchenbusch forest cemetery in Neu-Isenburg .

From January 14th to 23rd, 2011 Eva Jacob took part in the 5th season of the RTL show Ich bin ein Star - Get me out of here! part. She had to leave the jungle camp after the audience vote on January 22nd.

Johanna Jacob died on November 25, 2015 at the Sana Klinikum Offenbach from complications from a stroke . She was buried next to her sister Hannelore in the Buchenbusch forest cemetery.
