The Protestant Church in Rödelsee

The Evangelical Bartholomew Church is one of the two churches in the Lower Franconian community of Rödelsee . It stands on the church square in the middle of the village.

history

Rödelsee received a Catholic parish as early as the 12th century. The Reformation took hold of the place on the Schwanberg in 1525. As early as 1624, all residents of the village were Protestant. In the Thirty Years War the situation turned for the Protestants. Pastors were driven out and reinstated. The four village lords especially stood out here. The Bishopric of Würzburg , the monastery Ebrach , and the county Castell and the barons of Crailsheim fought for influence and power in the area at the edge of the Steigerwald. Since 1651 the 4 believers of both denominations have used a simultaneous church . After disputes about the financing of the church, the tower collapsed on February 3, 1770 on the dilapidated church.

In collecting donations, the Protestant community soon overtook the Catholic one and built its new church on the foundations of the old one. On August 27, 1780, the inauguration took place by Pastor Georg Wilhelm Carl Frobenius. The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation classifies the church building as a monument under the number D-6-75-161-6.

architecture

The choir tower church is built in the so-called margrave style. Two portals structure the nave with three window axes and a hipped roof . The tower has three floors, four windows and several ox eyes . The top floor is octagonal apart from the others. A French dome crowns the church tower.

Furnishing

The church has a multi-storey gallery inside . Altar, pulpit and organ are arranged one above the other. The pulpit and organ are accessed via a staircase in the tower. The baptismal font was donated by Johann Peter Raunest in 1795. Two church chairs with the coat of arms of the Counts of Castell come from Countess Margit zu Castell-Rüdenhausen and originally stood in the mansion gallery. The altarpiece The Resurrection was created by Georg Kramer from Nuremberg. The church has four bells in the tones d`- fis`- a`- h ".
