The Church of St. Michael on the Schwanberg near Rödelsee in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen is the religious order of the Evangelical-Lutheran community of Casteller Ring and the church of the spiritual center on the Schwanberg. The church with the patronage of the Archangel Michael was built from 1986 to 1987 according to plans by Alexander von Branca .

history

After the beginnings in the war and post-war years, the evangelical women's community at Schwanberg Castle had consolidated to such an extent in the 1970s that planning began for its own church. The church architect Alexander von Branca was commissioned with the design. After the foundation stone was laid in 1986, the church was consecrated on May 24, 1987.

Architecture and equipment

The structure of the church is inspired by the Old Testament descriptions of the temple and the New Jerusalem of the Revelation of John. St. Michael consists of an almost square main nave, flanked by two half-height aisles. These continue to the west beyond the portal front in two meditation chapels. Between the staircases, water flows from the west cone into a well basin. The roofs of the main nave and the compact bell tower adjoining the north chapel are designed so that they rise up on the sides like arms in ornaments or like wings. In the middle of the nave of the square altar, one of eight bronze stands cherubs worn granite - Mensa from the quarry of the Flossenburg concentration camp . Icons inside and a Celtic cross in front of the south chapel, the symbol of the community, also set ecumenical accents. The cloister is added to the south of the church .

In the north side of the interior of the 1993 by the Austrian organbuilder adds Rieger built organ with 17 registers on two manuals and pedals color and style in the architectural concept.

The church has four bells, three of which are from 1987 and one from 1965.
