Ewald Schurer (born April 15, 1954 in Ebersberg ; † December 3, 2017 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the German Bundestag.

Life and work

After attending elementary school , Schurer trained as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant from 1969 to 1972 . He then worked as a dispatcher at BMW AG until 1974 and then as a customer advisor at Dun & Bradstreet Deutschland GmbH . Schurer obtained his Abitur in 1978 on his second educational path . Studying at a technical college he finished 1988 as Diplom - Betriebswirt (FH). Schurer has been a self-employed communications consultant since 2002.

Ewald Schurer was Catholic , married and the father of four children.

Schurer joined the SPD in 1972 and was initially involved with the Jusos , of which he was chairman in southern Bavaria from 1972 to 1985.

From 1990 to 2004 and from 2009 to 2011 Schurer was chairman of the SPD sub-district Ebersberg . From 2003 to 2017 he was also chairman of the SPD district of Upper Bavaria . At the state party conference of the Bavarian SPD on July 11 and 12, 2009, Schurer was elected deputy state chairman with 68.1 percent of the vote. In 2017 he no longer stood for election to the state executive committee.

Schurer ran unsuccessfully in the Bundestag electoral district of Altötting in 1994 . In the 1998 Bundestag election , he moved into the German Bundestag via the state list , but failed to get back in 2002 . In the early 2005 election candidate Schurer as a direct candidate for the constituency Erding-Ebersberg . Although he was defeated by the CSU candidate Maximilian Lehmer , he was able to move back into the Bundestag via the state list. He was also elected to parliament via the state list in the 2009 Bundestag election, as well as in 2013 and 2017 when he lost to the CSU candidate Andreas Lenz in the constituency, but entered the Bundestag via the SPD state list.

In the Bundestag he was a full member of the budget committee and subcommittee on issues relating to the European Union and a deputy member of the committee for labor and social affairs.

In the budget committee, Schurer was rapporteur for the budget of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

In addition, Schurer worked in the SPD working groups on local politics and Bosnia and Herzegovina . He was also a member and budget spokesman for the Bavarian State Group .

After Schurer's sudden death in December 2017, Carsten Träger replaced him as a member of the SPD in the Bundestag.
