The Expressway 40 also known as Pyeongtaek-Chungju Expressway ( kor. 평택 제천 고속도로 ) is a freeway in South Korea . The highway is a relatively short east-west route in the west of the country, between Pyeongtaek and Jincheong , south of the urban area of Seoul . The route is 57 kilometers long.
Street description
The highway begins about 20 kilometers west of Pyeongtaek at an intersection with Expressway 15 . From here the motorway runs eastwards, through a flat surface. The road here has 2 × 3 lanes and a junction with Expressway 17 will soon follow . The highway then runs north of the city of Pyeongtaek, parallel to a highway with 2 × 2 lanes. On the east side of Pyeongtaek there is a junction with Expressway 1 . The highway then runs south of Anseong . Then the highway crosses a low mountain range and ends north of Jincheong on Expressway 35 .
history
The highway is relatively new as several large cities, ports, and industrial areas were built south of Seoul in the 1990s. Construction began in 1997 between Pyeongtaek and Anseong. On December 12, 2002, the section between Pyeongtaek (Expressway 15) and Anseong opened with about 26 kilometers. On August 31, 2007, the Anseong South Bypass was opened, about 10 kilometers away. Construction on the eastern part of the motorway also began in 2007. On November 11, 2008, the section between Anseong and Jincheon (Expressway 35) opened with a length of around 21 kilometers.
