Jan Eysselt (born August 21, 1945 , † March 16, 2006 in Nuremberg ) was a Czech ice hockey player and coach who was popular in Germany .
Career
As a player
Eysselt played in Czechoslovakia for HC Sparta Prague and the army club Dukla Jihlava , with whom he became Czechoslovak champion in 1971 and 1972 . At the WHA General Player Draft in February 1972, he was selected in the 33rd round by the Calgary Broncos .
As a trainer
Between 1979 and 1981 he was in charge of the Czechoslovak junior team as assistant coach to Jozef Golonka , and from 1980 to 1982 he coached HC Sparta Prague as assistant to Josef Horešovský .
In the 1980s, the Czechoslovakian came to Germany despite the political tensions of the Cold War . There the SC Riessersee was its first station from November 1983, where it stayed until 1985. With the SCR he had both seasons in the relegation, in each of which relegation was secured.
Then Heinz Weifenbach signed him for the ECD Iserlohn , with which he achieved the best placement in the club's history: The 1985/86 season his team finished fourth. In December 1987 Eysselt took over the coaching position of EHC 80 Nuremberg for one and a half years and managed to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga . After the season he had to return to Czechoslovakia.
In 1994 he returned to Nuremberg and trained the Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League . Eysselt was instrumental in ensuring that the Ice Tigers were able to sign the Czech Roman Turek as goalkeeper. Eysselt stayed in Nuremberg until the end of 1997. He then trained teams in Austria and Finland , as well as the Polish national ice hockey team . He became famous in his home country by working for Sparta and HC Slavia Prague . In 2004 he tried to return to the league with Amberg . In 2005 he worked at the Universiade in Innsbruck for the Czech team with which he won the silver medal. In December 2005 he was the head coach of the Polish U20 national ice hockey team at the 2006 U20 Junior World Cup (Division I, Group B) .
On March 16, 2006, Eysselt died of long-term cancer at the age of 60. He was buried in Prague on March 23rd .
