action
With the decision to end the East Dillon Lions football program, both the players and head coach Eric Taylor face an uncertain future. Taylor has received an offer for a five-year contract to return to coaching the Dillon Panthers, but his wife Tami would like to accept the position as dean of a college in Philadelphia . Matt Saracen comes back to town and proposes marriage to Julie Taylor, which she accepts. However, after she learns that Matt has not asked her father for permission beforehand, she sends him to him. When Matt asks, Coach Taylor refuses because Matt is only 19 and Julie is only 18 years old. Julie's mother is also not very enthusiastic about the news. Meanwhile, Vince wants to invite his father to the upcoming country finals, but he declines because he has something else to do. After Coach Taylor learns this, he seeks out Vince's father and tells him to come to the game. Meanwhile, Jess learns that she is about to move to her father's in Dallas , whereupon Coach Taylor offers to put in a word for her at a local high school so that she can fulfill her dream of becoming a high school football coach. Luke and Becky reconcile and Buddy puts pressure on Coach Taylor to decide for or against the Panthers before the state finals. Taylor eventually decides to give his wife priority and move to Philadelphia with her. In the national final, for which Vince's father appears, the Lions are 3 seconds to go 21:26 behind, but win the game with a Hail Mary over 63 yards . Eight months jump in time: Eric Taylor coaches a football team in Philadelphia, Tami Taylor is the dean of the college there, Vince became quarterback for the Dillon Panthers, Luke joined the United States Army , Matt and Julie live happily together, Jess is an assistant coach on a high school team and the Riggins brothers build a house on Tim's land.
