Derek Phillips

Derek Phillips (born April 18, 1976 in Miami , Florida ) is an American actor . He gained fame primarily through the role of Billy Riggins from the Friday Night Lights series .

life and career

Derek Phillips is from Miami, Florida. After school, he attended Baylor University in Waco , Texas , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting. After graduation, he moved to New York City and then appeared alongside his first television roles and on various theater stages, including the Dallas Theater Center and the Capital Repertory Theater in Albany .

He first appeared in front of the camera in 2002 in two episodes of the soap opera Springfield Story . This was followed by guest appearances in Prison Break , Grey's Anatomy , Numbers - The Logic of Crime , The Closer , Medium - Nothing Remains Hidden or Private Practice . In 2006 he was cast in the role of Billy Riggins in the NBC series Friday Night Lights , which he played for five seasons until 2011. Further series appearances in Castle , Body of Proof , Murder in the First and Reckless followed .

2012 saw Phillips in the horror film Inside - Deadly Prison in the role of Grant Carter . Also in 2013, he played Bobby Bragan in 42 - The True Story of a Sports Legend . Other film appearances also include The Jogger , Ritual and Looking: The Movie .

From 2013 to 2017 he played a supporting role as Travis Murphy on the series Longmire . Phillips took on other guest roles in Grimm , The Mentalist , Chicago PD , Game of Silence , Scorpion , Marvel's Agents of SHIELD , Scandal and Criminal Minds . In 2018 he appeared in the third season of the series Shooter in the role of Earl Swagger .

In addition to his acting activities, Phillips also regularly lends his voice to characters from video games. These include Dishonored: The Mask of Anger , Aliens: Colonial Marines , The Last of Us , Murdered: Soul Suspect , Life Is Strange , Battlefield Hardline , Fallout 4 or Rise of the Tomb Raider .
