The FMA IA 53 Mamboretá ( Eng . " Praying Mantis ") was a single-engine agricultural aircraft of the Fabrica Militar de Aviones .
Development history
Development work for FMA IA 53 began on October 1, 1964. The first prototype was mainly used for stress tests. The second prototype first flew on November 13, 1966. There was no series production.
A prototype is on display today in the Museo Nacional de Aerónautica in Buenos Aires .
construction
- Hull: tubular steel construction; partly planked with Dural, partly with GRP; closed cockpit; for transfer flights, space for a second person behind the pilot
- Structure: cantilever low wing aircraft in all-metal construction with two spars; Gap landing flaps
- Tail unit: cantilevered normal construction in all-metal, swept vertical tail unit with aerodynamic compensation
- Chassis: rigid chassis with star wheel
