Origin and family

Fabian was a member of the Swedish noble family of barons ( Swedish former ) Wrede . His parents were the Swedish general Freiherr Fabian Casimir Wrede (1724–1795) and Catharina Charlotta, née Freiin Fleming af Liebelitz (1739–1764). In 1780, Fabian married Countess Marie Stanislas Josefine Sparre (1764-1824), daughter of the Maréchal de camp Count Louis Ernest Joseph Sparre . This marriage ended in divorce in 1796. His second wife was Agata Bremer (1774-1810) in 1798. A total of six children resulted from both marriages. Including the Swedish generals Count Fabian Ernst Wrede (1782–1833) and Baron Fabian Jakob Wrede (1802–1893).

He was raised to the status of a Swedish count in 1809 with primogeniture without having been introduced to the count class of the Swedish knighthood . The line he had donated went out with his grandchildren. The last Count Wrede of this line was his grandson, the Swedish minister and diplomat Louis Wrede (1816–1901).

Career

Wrede began his career in the Swedish army in 1770 as a quartermaster in the Livguard . In 1772 he was promoted to quartermaster in the body regiment on horseback, where he rose to cornet in 1775 and to lieutenant in 1777 . In 1778 he moved to the Royal Suédois to enter the French service, first with the regiment "Royal Suédois" and thus in French service , where he remained until 1780.

Back in the Swedish service, he first found a job under Count Gustaf Philip Creutz in the Swedish embassy in Paris . As early as 1781 he became chamberlain to Queen Sofia Magdalena , and finally in 1782 the king's adjutant and major in the army . In 1784 he moved to the Uppland Regiment as a lieutenant colonel . In 1786 he became one of the king's six upper chamberlain and in 1788 rose to the position of colonel and commander of his regiment. When he was appointed adjutant general of the king in 1789, he also became a Knight of the Order of the Sword . In 1790 he became master of ceremonies for all royal orders including the North Star Order . In 1791 he was appointed chief of the Nyland Regiment with an associated brigade of hunters and dragoons . In 1795 he was promoted to major general and switched to chief of the Björneborg regiment with its light battalion , as well as being awarded the Seraphine Order in 1796. Wrede then became chief of the body hunter regiment in 1798 and inspector general of the Swedish infantry in 1802. He was promoted to lieutenant general in 1805 , took part in the Fourth Coalition War in Pomerania and in the Russo-Swedish War , and rose to infantry general in 1809 .

During his stay in Paris in 1810, he explored Jean Baptiste Bernadotte's prospects for the Swedish throne and has been a steady supporter of the pretender ever since. In 1811 he became Chancellor of the War Academy in Karlberg , joined the State Council and became "one of the lords of the kingdom" ( Swedish En av rikets herrar ). After he left the cabinet, he became junior commercial officer in 1812. In the same year he also became chancellor and in 1813 took his leave of the body hunter regiment. He concluded his tour in 1816 as a field marshal.
