Fatzwerk is a German band from the Middle Ages scene from the Hallertau . The Bavarian band was founded in 2006 in Hallertau. The name means something like "mockery".

history

The beginnings

The three founding members "Silas the Sittenstrolch", "Master Wammel von Ramsch" and "Hans Olo the handsome" were still involved in various rock and metal bands when they were still at school. Before Fatzwerk, Silas founded the medieval band “Maledictum”, but it was dissolved again after a short time. After Fatzwerk was founded in 2006, smaller private events were initially played, but in 2007 the band was able to play at the large medieval festival "Knights in Munich" on the Tollwood site. This was followed by appearances at some medieval markets and city festivals, at the cultural festivals Open Flair (Ingolstadt) in Ingolstadt and Sinnflut in Erding, as well as at the Dellnhauser Volksmusikfest . A special event was also the first engagement at the Cave Gladium in Furth im Wald, where the band has made guest appearances every year since then.

Minstrel art

In the following year, in addition to numerous medieval festivals, the Holledau festival and a support show for Cultus Ferox were played. At the end of 2008 the first album "Sπelmannskunst" (Spielmannskunst) was recorded in the Farmland Studios (today Die Farm Studios ) in Freising by Karlheinz "Kalle" Wallner and Jürgen "Yogi" Lang (both RPWL ). In 2009 the band u. a. Performances at the Uferlos Festival in Freising, and a support show for Ingrimm and Feuerschwanz in Ingolstadt.

With sack and pack

In 2010 the drummers "Alexus vom Taubenberg" and "Sepp Ultura" joined the band. Sepp Ultura previously played drums and percussion as "Donnerkeil" in the band Tibetréa . In the same year u. a. another appearance with the band Feuerschwanz , as well as at the Uferlos Festival. At the end of the year the band began recording their second studio album "Mit Sack & Pack" with the help of their new drummer Alexus. During the production there are already signs of the upcoming departure of the founding member Silas, who finished the recordings before he decided to leave the band in early 2011 and switched to the Ingolstadt medieval band Zackenflanke . A total of 6 songs from the album made it onto sampler, u. a. by Zillo and Sonic Seducer . Severin von Hals, who was a guest musician on string instruments and vocals on the album, joined the band. Severin's entry resulted in a change in the band's musical style, which changed from classical market music to folk.

Zeytreyse

In 2012 "Heinrich der Flötzer" joined the band at the Marktsackpfeife. The band played u. a. at the fire dance festival . At the end of the year the band began producing the third studio album "Zeytreyse" in Alexus' studio "Tonschale". The album showed clearer tendencies towards folk and contained fewer bagpipes than the two previous ones. Songs from the album could again be placed on samplers by Zillo and Sonic Seducer. For the release of the album, the band decided to look for a distributor for all previous albums and found a suitable partner in iMusician Digital . The two following albums are also distributed in this way. Severin withdrew from the band's live events after the album was produced and has since appeared again as a guest musician on the band's albums.

The fourth

In 2013 the band played u. a. Performances at the festivals Schlosshof Festival and dance! (Festival) , as well as at the Neuburg Castle Festival . In the same year Sepp Ultura decided to leave the band. At the end of 2014, the band began planning the fourth studio album "Das Vierte". The band decided to partially finance the album with the help of the crowdfunding platform startnext . The financing target was achieved and even exceeded, and production in Alexus' “clay bowl” studio could begin. As a guest musician for the album, Alexus, through his work with Faun and Folk Noir , was able to win Stephan Groth on the hurdy-gurdy for the song "Blackleg Minor". Other guest musicians on the violin and tin whistle , and once again Severin on various stringed instruments and vocals, were won over. The album was very well received by fans and the press. The Zillo Medieval wrote: "The fourth is full of charm and inventiveness and, last but not least, full of nonsense."

Holledau live

In 2016, in addition to numerous medieval festivals and a. also played the Regensburg Spectaculum. At the end of the year the band celebrated their 10th anniversary with an anniversary concert in Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm, which was recorded and produced on a live CD. Franziska Schober (formerly Fuchsteufelswild (band) ) was active as a live musician at some gigs in 2016, including at the anniversary concert in Pfaffenhofen. For the first time since the separation in 2011, Silas the Sittenstrolch could also be heard live at the market sack pipe at the anniversary. At the beginning of 2017, the live recording of the anniversary concert was released as a live album entitled "Holledau (live)". In 2018, among other things, the Medieval Spectaculum Oberwesel and the festival of pure beer in Ingolstadt were played. In 2019 the band u. a. Performed at the fire dance festival and in the framework program for the historical festival Der Meistertrunk in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

style

The band uses live classical instruments of medieval market music such as market bagpipe, shawm, percussion and davul. Instruments from folk and world music are also used in the studio, such as E.g .: harmonium, bouzouki and talking drum. Humor plays a major role at Fatzwerk, the names of the musicians were inspired by Gerhard Polt , Willy Astor and the film The Life of Brian , among others . Both the announcements at live concerts, as well as the concepts (cover design, clips) for the CDs indicate the band's humor.
