The Feldbahn-Museum 500 is a museum in Nuremberg , in which field railways of the rare 500 mm gauge are collected and presented. In addition to the more recent 500mm light rail project in Berlin, it is the only collection of material of this gauge in Germany and also the largest.

history

The museum goes back to the collection of its late founder Karlheinz Rohrwild. Today it is run by the Feldbahn-Museum 500 e. V. worn.

vehicles

In 2010, the museum had 86 locomotives, including two operational steam locomotives and what is probably the oldest drivable light rail diesel locomotive in Germany. Among the more than 400 passenger car sets are the five cars built in 1928 for the former Nuremberg Zoo and cars for the Berchtesgaden visitor mine . The focus of freight vehicles is on mining trucks and vehicles from the brickworks in the Nuremberg area.

Visiting opportunities

The museum is open to the public on certain days of the year. Visits are also possible by appointment. The vehicles will be demonstrated in operation on the extensive track system running in the hilly terrain, which is over 1 km in length and includes an approximately 500 meter long circuit.
