The historic tram depot St. Peter is run by the Friends of the Nuremberg-Fürther Straßenbahn e. V. operated in cooperation with Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg and is located in the former St. Peter tram depot in Nuremberg .

The museum's exhibition was opened on May 16, 1985 as part of the 150th anniversary of the railway in Germany . A revision of the exhibition room took place for the on 18./19. May 1996 celebrations "100 Years of Electricity through Nuremberg and Fürth ", whereby the individual themed exhibitions are continuously expanded and revised.

The aim of the facility is to present the history of the former tram company of VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft Nürnberg , as well as the historic Nürnberg-Fürth tram and today's Nuremberg tram using original vehicles and documents, technical objects and other exhibits.

There are permanent exhibitions on the subjects of the Nuremberg city bus , uniforms, the tram between 1933 and 1945, the development of the tram, infrastructure, trams in the world, electricity for the tram, workshops and from the eagle to the subway . Furthermore, two model trams are shown in the scales 1: 22.5 ( G scale ) and 1:87 ( H0 scale ). Set in a converted tram railcars from 1935 there is a cinema, a sidecar from 1955 is part of the "Straßaboh cafes".

Vehicle fleet

Starting with the first horse-drawn tram from 1881, the museum shows the most important and beautiful trams up to the present day. Almost without exception, all cars built after 1904 are approved for passenger service and are used for special trips. A total of 32 vehicles belong to the museum's collection, of which around 20 can be viewed in the exhibition. The fleet is supplemented by the four historic buses MAN MP , Krauss-Maffei KMS 120 , Büssing Prefect 12D and MAN SL 202  CNG (the first natural gas-powered bus in Germany). All vehicles belong to VAG, only the buses MAN SL 202 CNG (Wagen 135) and Krauss-Maffei KMS 120 are owned by the association.

  • Line 11 mulled wine rides (operating days: November / December)

City tour with Nuremberg mulled wine rides: Vintage trams decorated for Christmas from 1940 to 1960 drive through the southern part of the city and around Nuremberg's historic old town. Elisen gingerbread and mulled wine are served during the journey. A conductor tells history and stories about sights to the left and right of the route. Route: Hauptbahnhof - Scheurlstr - Hauptbahnhof - Rathenauplatz - Tiergärtnertor - Plärrer - Aufseßplatz - Hauptbahnhof

  • Line 13 city tours (operating days: every Monday from May to September)

City tour with a tour guide on line 13 and whoever wants can then walk with the tour guide to the main market and admire the men running at the Frauenkirche or take the train from Hallertor back to the main station. Route: Central Station - Documentation Center - Historic Tram Depot St. Peter - Plärrer - St. Johannisfriedhof - Hallertor.

  • Line 15 Burgring line (operating days: every first weekend of the month: February – December)

With vintage cars on a journey through time: every first weekend the Burgring line 15 invites you to take a ride! Route: Historic tram depot St. Peter - Plärrer - Tiergärtnertor - Central Station - Documentation Center - historic tram depot St. Peter

  • Line F / V Volksfest (operating days: individual days during the spring / autumn festival)

The South German Showmen Association invites you to take a ride on the vintage tram straight to the folk festival. Route: Christ Church - Central Station - Documentation Center - Christ Church

omnibus

  • Line 75 themed trip (traffic days: every first Sunday of the month: March – November)

On a discovery tour with vintage buses from the years 1959 to 1987! Each month, the themed trips head for different destinations in Nuremberg and the surrounding area. The route varies.

Sponsoring association

The Friends of the Nürnberg-Fürther Tram e. V. are a non-profit association based in Nuremberg, which is dedicated to the collection and maintenance of historic trams. The aims of the association are, according to the statutes, to preserve and restore historical Nuremberg and Fürth means of transport, to document them in an archive, to present them in the "Historical Tram Depot St. Peter" and to carry out tours with historical VAG vehicles. The club magazine "Die Straßaboh" appears three times a year (in February, June and October).

The association was founded on March 12, 1976 by Wolfgang Würth, a bus and tram driver from VAG. In 1979 the association moved into the former training room of the St. Peter tram plant, which was closed in 1974, and opened the museum exhibition in the former depot building on May 16, 1985. A cooperation agreement has existed between the association and the VAG since August 7, 1989 on the operation and use of the historic St. Peter tram depot and on the work of association members. This became possible because the transport company has recognized the great use of the museum for its public relations work and wants to present its historical roots to the population and passengers in this way.
