Felix Wettstein (born January 19, 1958 in Kriens ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ).

Political commitment

He has been a member of the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Solothurn since 2010 . He has been a member of the municipal parliament of the city of Olten since 2007 . From 2012 to 2018 he was President of the Green Party of the canton of Solothurn, previously (2006–2012) President of the Green Region Olten.

Felix Wettstein was sworn in as a member of the Cantonal Council in August 2010. He belongs to the group of the Greens, which at the time had six seats in the 100-member parliament. The Greens have had seven seats since the 2013 elections, and four years later they were able to confirm the result. During the first five years as a cantonal councilor, Felix Wettstein was a member of the business audit committee. In 2015 he moved to the finance committee.

Felix Wettstein has been a member of the municipal parliament in Olten since 2007 as one of four Greens in the 40-member council. For eight years he represented the Greens on the business audit committee, which was also responsible for the preliminary consultation of the budget and invoice. Later he was part of the special commission for the revision of the municipal code (the "constitution" of the city of Olten), which was partially revised in 2016. In the years before that, Felix Wettstein made various efforts to ensure that the division of powers between the city government and parliament was reconsidered. Other of his initiatives concerned, for example, the Olten municipal operations (supply system for electricity, gas, water), the city's options for reducing the social assistance rate, municipal planning and measures to calm traffic.

His party nominated him for the national elections on October 20, 2019 for both the Council of States and the National Council list. He was elected to the National Council.

Felix Wettstein was born in 1958 in Kriens (Canton Lucerne, Switzerland) and attended primary school there. In 1971 the family moved to Niederrohrdorf in the canton of Aargau: Felix Wettstein graduated from the district school and the canton school in Baden AG . As a teenager and young adult, he volunteered in the youth association " Jungwacht Blauring ". After graduating from high school, he studied pedagogy, geography and folklore at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1984 with a licentiate . He has lived in Olten SO since 1995 .

From 1985 to 1992 he worked as a specialist for leisure and youth issues at the Swiss foundation pro juventute in Zurich. In this position, he advised authorities, organizations and citizens' groups in the planning and realization of playgrounds, child-friendly transformation of school building courses, game actions, holiday activities, etc. He led training courses for employees of Robinson playgrounds , play buses and youth clubs through, create leaflets and was co-author of the book "Break - enlivening and shaping school grounds" published by pro juventute .

From 1992 to 2000 he was employed by the canton of Aargau in what was then the education department (now the education department): as a representative for health education ( health education ). During this time, the department became part of the teacher training school, which in turn is now integrated into the FHNW University of Education . The largest project of this professional station was the production of an 11-part teaching aid "Health Promotion in School", which is being delivered today by Schulverlag Plus AG .

In 2000 Felix Wettstein was employed as a lecturer at the Aargau University of Applied Sciences, University of Social Work; initially based in Brugg, since 2006 in Olten as part of the Northwestern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences . His specialty is health promotion and prevention . He heads the advanced training program "MAS Health Promotion and Prevention", is jointly responsible for the specialization "Health and Illness" in the Bachelor's degree in social work and participates in research and service projects in his field.
