Felix von Borcke

Ewald Wilhelm Felix von Borcke (born March 5, 1784 in Treuenbrietzen , † August 14, 1863 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Jülich Fortress .

Life

His parents were Lieutenant General Friedrich Adrian von Borcke (1734-1806) and his wife Sophie Elisabeth, née Lüdicke (* December 1, 1753; † January 12, 1809).

Military career

Borcke was supposed to receive an education at the royal court, but on May 4, 1793 initially only received an entitlement to admission to the court pages . In 1795 he came as a page to King Friedrich Wilhelm II. After his death in 1797 he became a page to his successor Friedrich Wilhelm III. From there Borcke occurred on March 29, 1800, when an ensign in the infantry regiment "of Owstin" the Prussian army and advanced on 26 September 1802 to second lieutenant . 1804/05 he graduated from the General War School of Scharnhorst for further training . During the Fourth Coalition War , Borcke was captured in a battle near Lübeck in 1806 and then made inactive.

On November 8, 1811, he received his departure with permission to continue wearing his army uniform. Borcke withdrew to Stettin. In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he joined the 2nd Kurmärkische Landwehr Regiment on June 1, 1813 as captain and company commander . During the wars he fought in the battles of Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig and Ligny . He was also involved in the storming of Herzogenbusch, the capture of Lille and the battles at Jühnsdorf and Wavre . Borcke received the Iron Cross II. Class for Dennewitz and the First Class Cross for Ligny.

After the war, he was transferred to the Berlin Guard Landwehr Regiment on June 20, 1816. From there, on March 30, 1817, he was transferred as a major to the 2nd Rhenish Grenadier Landwehr Regiment, and on April 8, 1817, he was appointed regimental commander. In 1820 he came as a commander to the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment in Koblenz . Borcke rose to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1833, and on March 30, 1834, was entrusted with the command of the 34th Infantry Regiment . With his promotion to colonel , he was appointed regimental commander on March 30, 1835. In this position Borcke received the Order of the Red Eagle III on January 18, 1839 . Class with a bow. On March 30, 1840, he was transferred to the 14th Landwehr Brigade as commander and on April 11, 1840, he was aggregated to the 34th Infantry Regiment. March 7, 1848, to May 30, 1849 served as commander of Borcke Jülich and was subsequently awarded the character as a lieutenant general for disposition made. He died in Berlin on August 14, 1863 and was buried in the garrison cemetery on August 17, 1863 .

Borcke married on March 30, 1811 in Stettin Friederike Luise von Owstin (* November 21, 1784 - February 22, 1847), widowed von Normann from the Quilow family, from her first marriage the mother of the landscape painter Rudolf von Normann .
