Ferdinand von Borcke

Friedrich Felix Ferdinand von Borcke (born January 14, 1811 in Anklam , † June 13, 1883 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Ferdinand was a member of the Pomeranian noble family Borcke . His parents were General Felix von Borcke (1784–1863) and Friederike, née von Owstien , widowed von Normann (1784–1848).

Borcke married Pauline von Gundlach from the Möllenhagen house (1826–1886) in 1847 . The marriage resulted in six children, all of whom remained single .

Career

Borcke began an officer career in the Prussian Army in 1829 as portepee ensign with the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment and also advanced to secondary lieutenant in 1829 , prime lieutenant in 1847 and captain and company commander in the regiment in 1849 . He took part in the campaign in Schleswig in 1848 . In 1856 he rose to major and in 1861 to lieutenant colonel . When he was promoted to colonel in 1863 , he became commander of the 42nd Infantry Regiment in Stralsund . In this capacity he took part in the campaign against Austria with the regiment in 1866 . In 1866 he became the commander of the 10th Infantry Brigade . Borcke was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III in 1864 . Class and in 1866 with the Crown Order III. Class excellent. In 1869 he received his farewell , but was used again during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 as commander of the 33rd Infantry Brigade in Kiel . When he was released from this position he was given the character of Lieutenant General.
