Ferdinand Werner von Podewils (born March 13, 1801 in Marienburg ; † May 20, 1881 in Schierokau , Lublinitz district ), was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from the well-known noble family of Podewils , who lived in a castle in Pomerania . His parents were the Prussian major general Christian Ferdinand von Podewils (1765-1831) and his wife Karoline Wilhelmine Charlotte, née von Liebenroth (1774-1810).

Military career

Podewils began his career as a cadet at the Kadettenanstalt Berlin and in 1817 was first porter in the Guards Artillery Brigade, but in the same year he was sent to the artillery and engineering school , where he remained until 1818. Nevertheless, in October 1817 he was promoted to second lieutenant .

In 1827 Podewils was promoted to prime lieutenant, in 1836 became captain and company commander, and in 1844 was director of the Berlin artillery depot. In 1847 he was promoted to major and accepted into the examination committee for prime lieutenants of the artillery . In 1848 Podewils was department commander in the Guards Artillery Brigade and in 1853 advanced to lieutenant colonel . From 1854 he was in command of the 8th Artillery Regiment , was promoted to colonel in 1855 and in 1857 switched to the 3rd Artillery Regiment as commander . In this position he was awarded the Russian Order of St. Anna II Class on October 24, 1857 . On November 22, 1858, he was promoted to major general and brigadier . With the award of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves, Podewils was retired from military service on September 13, 1859 .

family

Podewils had married Laura Adelaide von Schulze from the Pogirmen (* 1808), daughter of Samuel von Schulze, heir to Jodnuschen, in Berlin on October 30, 1826 . The marriage produced three daughters and one son, including:
