Wilhelm Ferdinand von Schlemmer (born September 21, 1788 in Breslau , † February 4, 1875 in Münster ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Johann Adam von Schlemmer († 1809) and his wife Charlotte Christiane, née Herrmann († 1798). His father had received the order Pour le Mérite as a major in the infantry regiment "von Hohenlohe" on March 31, 1793 and was most recently as colonel in command of the Silberberg fortress .

Military career

Schlemmer visited the cadet house in Berlin from mid-December 1800 . On December 27, 1805 he was employed as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Pelchrzim" . There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich in 1806 and was wounded in the defense of Neisse during the Fourth Coalition War .

With a patent dated December 19, 1806, Schlemmer joined the Silesian Artillery Brigade as a second lieutenant on April 26, 1809 and completed the General War School for further training in 1810/1812 . In the Wars of Liberation Schlemmer fought in 1813/1814 in the Battle of Bautzen , for which he received the Iron Cross II. Class, near Dresden , Leipzig and Laon .

By July 31, 1815 he was promoted to captain and, after the peace treaty, on May 23, 1816 he joined the 4th Artillery Brigade . With his promotion to major Schlemmer was from April 21, 1828 to March 29, 1834 as commander of the III. Department in the 3rd Artillery Brigade in Magdeburg . He was then assigned to lead the 7th Artillery Brigade in Cologne . On March 30, 1835 he was appointed brigadier and in this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1839 and to colonel on September 10, 1840.

On January 21, 1847 Schlemmer was given a pension for z. D. posed. Six months later, he received the character as a major general and was adjusted Schlemmer a commander position in view. However, since this was not available for the foreseeable future, he was granted his retirement on October 24, 1848 with the statutory pension.

family

Schlemmer married Henriette Hagemann (1799–1874) on June 14, 1819 in Breslau. She was the daughter of the general tenant Karl Andreas Alexander Hagemann.
