Fergalicious is an electro / rap song can the American pop - singer Fergie . The song was released as the second single from their debut solo album The Dutchess . It is a duet with The Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am , who raps on the song and was previously the producer of the single. The single reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks in 2006 , which is how Fergie achieved her breakthrough as a solo artist.

Information about the song

It wasn't until many months after its release that Fergalicious reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 , where it was for several weeks. Overall, the single was in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 for 14 weeks . Fergalicious was particularly successful as a download . It is one of the few songs in the US that has been awarded platinum by the RIAA twice for very high download numbers. As of August 2008, Fergalicious had been downloaded over 2,740,000 times in the US. This makes Fergies Fergalicious one of the most successful download songs of all time. Fergalicious appeared on the B-side of Fergies Clumsy in the UK in October 2007 .

The song includes a sample of Supersonic by JJ Fad and Give It All You Got by Afro-Rican. It contains elements from Night Train by James Brown and It's More Fun to Compute by Kraftwerk (both were sampled in Give It All You Got ). The riff at the beginning of the song is the theme song from Dominic Frontiere's 1960s TV show The Rat Patrol . will.i.am's first rap at the beginning of the song is taken from a line of 2 Live Crews Throw The D . The word Fergalicious is a portmanteau of the words Fergie and delicious . Rap and chanting are a big part of the song.

On December 4, 2006, Fergie and will.i.am sang the song live at the Billboard Music Awards and the Big In '06 Awards. The music video won the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards in the categories "Sexiest Video of the Year" and "Best International Video Artist" . The song was used in the video game Boogie .

There are two different versions of Fergalicious . The first is the album / studio version with a length of 4:52 minutes, this version can be heard on the album. The second version is the radio version with a length of 3:42 minutes, which is played on the radio stations. In the radio version, the word shit also appears in the song .

controversy

The song came into controversy because of Fergie and Nelly Furtado (both have a record deal with the Interscope-Geffen-A&M record label , a sub-label of the Universal Music Group ). In the lyrics, Fergie wrote: But I ain't promiscuous , referring to Furtado's number one hit, Promiscuous . Later in the song Give It to Me , Furtado wrote a verse in which she insulted Fergie. In the song Impacto, a duet with Daddy Yankee , Fergie sings: You got a problem, come say in to my face .

In March 2009, NWA founding member Arabian indicted Prince Fergie of copyright infringement Fergie did by covering Supersonic for Fergalicious . After a long time the problem was resolved, Prince got 20% of the rights from Fergalicious and Fergie was able to prevent a lawsuit.

Music video

The music video for Fergalicious premiered on October 24, 2006 on MTV . The video was shot in Hollywood , directed by Fatima Robinson, who also directed the music video My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas .
