The twin sisters Ferhan & Ferzan Önder (born October 2, 1965 near Tokat , Turkey ) are Austrian pianists who mainly perform as a piano duo .

Life

Musical career

Ferhan and Ferzan Önder said they were born in a small northern Turkish village. After her older brother began studying music at the Ankara Conservatory , the family moved to Ankara. The twin sisters began playing the piano at the age of 10, and were taught as a piano duo from the start. At the age of 14 they already won a Jury Special Award at the Concorso Pianistico Internazionale Alessandro Casagrande in Terni / Italy. They first studied at the Hacettepe University in Ankara and from 1985 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the master classes of Noel Flores and Paul Badura-Skoda .

The duo is known for worldwide concert tours and regular guest performances with renowned international orchestras. They also appear at music festivals such as the Salzburg Festival , the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Wiener Festwochen , the Rheingau Music Festival and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

The duo's repertoire includes works from Bach , Vivaldi and Mozart to Poulenc , Bartók , Stravinsky , Lutosławski and Fazıl Say .

Her official debut CD Vivaldi Reflections (2001) received the ECHO Klassik in 2002 . Her second album was titled 1001 Nights (2003). In 2002 a live recording of a collaboration with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden ( Carnival of the Animals , speaker: Günther Jauch ) was published.

The twin sisters were appointed UNICEF ambassadors by the Turkish UNICEF committee in 2003 and are involved in children's projects. You both live in Vienna.

Private

  • Ferhan Önder was married to Rico Gulda and has one daughter.
  • Ferzan Önder, initially the wife of a Viennese entrepreneur, has been married to the multi- percussionist Martin Grubinger (* 1983) since 2009 and has one son.
