Ferrandina is an Italian commune in the province of Matera in the Basilicata region .

Ferrandina has 8,308 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The place is located 35 km southwest of Matera . The neighboring communities are Craco , Grottole , Miglionico , Pisticci , Pomarico , Salandra and San Mauro Forte .

Ferrandina was mentioned for the first time in 1490. The place was founded when a landslide destroyed the old place.

The church Chiesa di S. Domenico is worth seeing in the village.

A local culinary specialty are olives of the Majatica di Ferrandina variety . They are grown in the city itself, in the Basento valley and the surrounding area. They are served at the table, but also made into cold-pressed olive oil .
