Valsinni is a municipality in the province of Matera in the Italian region of Basilicata .

1423 inhabitants live in Valsinni (as of December 31, 2019). The place is 78 km south of Matera . The neighboring communities are Colobraro , Nocara  ( CS ), Noepoli  ( PZ ), Nova Siri , Rotondella and San Giorgio Lucano .

The place was founded in ancient times . The name at the time was Favale. After a landslide, the inhabitants fled into the valley ( Italian : Valle) of the Sinni River and founded Valsinni there.

The poet Isabella Morra lived in the Castello di Valsinni of Baron Morra .
