The Financial District is a district ( Neighborhood ) of Boston in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is located downtown near Government Center and Chinatown .

Like many areas in Boston, the Financial District was never officially defined in terms of its extent. It is generally believed that it is bounded by Atlantic Avenue , State Street and Devonshire Street . The area covers several USPS ZIP codes , with a focus on 02108, 02109, 02110 and 02111.

In the district is home to the Post Office Square , the building complexes Exchange Place and One International Place and the Custom House Tower . The following companies have branches in the Financial District :

Close to Boston South Station are Dewey Square , One Financial Center, and the buildings of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston . The buildings 33 Arch Street , One Federal Street , the First National Bank Building and the 101 Federal Street skyscraper are also part of the Financial District . Most of the city's skyscrapers are in the district and are very densely built. However, the Prudential Center and the John Hancock Tower are the tallest skyscrapers in Boston in Back Bay .

Even more recently, construction has continued in the area of ​​the Financial District . The 395  ft (120.4  m ) high-rise Russia Wharf with 32 floors was newly built. Construction of the South Station Tower was scheduled for 2009, but has been suspended. When it is completed, it will provide 41 floors at 621  ft (189.28  m ). A new, 600 ft (182.88 m ) high-rise is also in the current planning  phase  . Other planned skyscrapers such as the Aquarium Garage and Congress Street Towers could change the city's skyline significantly if approved.
