Fyodor Andrianowitsch Poletayev ( Russian Фёдор Андрианович Полетаев ; born May 1, jul. / 14. May  1909 greg. In Katino ( Rajon Skopin ), Ryazan Governorate ; † 2. February 1945 at Cantalupo Ligure ) was a Russian soldier and a member of the Italian Resistenza .

Life

The farmer's son Poletaev began working in Elektrogorsk in 1923 as a porter for peat extraction. In 1929 he married Marija Nikanorowna Kalinina. In 1931 he returned to Katino with his wife, where his daughter Alexandra was born.

In the autumn of 1931, Poletaev was drafted into the Red Army . He served in the artillery regiment of the Moscow Proletarian Rifle Division and was trained as a blacksmith . After his release in 1933 he went with his wife and children (his son Misha was born in 1932) to Staromyshastovskaya , where he worked as a blacksmith. The family had to return to Katino in 1935 due to the children's illness. Son Mischa died of poliomyelitis , while daughter Shura became deaf and mute . Three more children were born.

After the beginning of the German-Soviet war , Poletajew was drafted again and served in the 28th Guards Artillery Regiment of the 9th Guards Rifle Division. He took part in the Battle of Moscow and in the spring and summer of 1942 in the fighting on the Don . After parts of the division were trapped in June 1942, Poletaev was seriously injured in July. His further fate was initially unclear. Eventually he was captured by Germany. He passed through the Vyazma , Berdychiv and Mielec camps and came to the camp near Slavonski Brod . In March 1944 he fled with a group of prisoners of war, but was soon recaptured and sent to Tortona in Italy with a work detachment .

In July 1944, Poletaev and other Russian prisoners managed to escape with the help of Italian communists . He joined the partisans of the Ligurian Apennines , where he was called Fiodor Poetan. He joined an Italian-Russian sabotage group of the 798 Brigata "A. Mazzarello" . In October the Brigata was transferred to the 58ª Brigata "Oreste" of the Divisione Garibaldi "Cichero" , and Poletajew came to the group "Nino Franchi" , which took up position in the Borbera Valley near Roccaforte Ligure . In the battle of Cantalupo Ligure he was killed while defending himself to protect his comrades in early February 1945.

Poletaev Monument, Cantalupo Ligure

Poletaev was buried first in Rocchetta Ligure and then, after the war, in Genoa in the monumental cemetery Staglieno in Campo della Gloria . A memorial stele was erected for him in Cantalupo Ligure .

In 1945, Poletajew and three other Soviet partisans were the only foreigners to be awarded the Medaglia d'oro al valor militare posthumously. Only after Sergei Sergejewitsch Smirnow had proven by means of documents and photographs that Fyodor Poetan was identical to the Soviet soldier Fyodor Andrianowitsch Poletajew did the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet appoint Poletayev to the Hero of the Soviet Union in 1962 and posthumously awarded him the Order of Lenin . In 1963 Poletaev's family was invited to Genoa, who then arrived in Genoa on February 2, 1963, accompanied by the Soviet ambassador. In 1963, Viktor Petrowitsch Lissakowitsch produced a documentary about Poletajew, which won the Silver Dove at the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film in 1963 . 1970–1971, Vladimir Yefimowitsch Zigal created a monumental Poletaev monument in Ryazan with the architect Lev Grigoryevich Golubowski. Poletaev's name was given to a Soviet tanker built by Ansaldo in Genoa . In 1978 the mayor of Cantalupo Ligure Carniglia, with the support of a partisan commander, had the sculptor and partisan Nicola Neonato erect a monument to Poletaev. Another monumental monument was erected in Krasnogorsk, Uzbekistan (removed in 2014). Streets in Lipetsk , Moscow, Miass , Skopin, Chernivtsi , Mariupol , Karaganda , Temirtau , Tuapse and Ryazan were named after Poletaev, and there is a Via Fiodor in Genoa.
