The Pico Airport , in Portuguese "Aeroporto da ilha do Pico", is a regional airport on the Azores island of Pico . TAP Portugal and SATA Air Açores have been flying scheduled services to Ponta Delgada , Terceira and Lisbon since 2005 .

history

The airfield, which opened in 1982, was completely renovated in 2004, the runway 09/27 was paved and extended to 1,760 meters, and a new terminal, a new tower and a fire station were built. The National Institute for Civil Aviation (INAC) granted the airport permit on December 30, 2004, but only months later, on April 21, 2005, did the first daytime commercial flight through TAP Portugal take place. The first night flights under visual flight conditions took place after further expansion of the lighting in 2009. On June 28, 2010 the new freight warehouse was inaugurated. SATA Aeródromos was founded in 2005 as a subsidiary of Grupo SATA and is the operating company for the airports in the Azores.
