Françoise Yip
Françoise Yip ( Chinese 葉芳華 / 叶芳华 , Pinyin Yè Fānghuá , Jyutping Jip 6 Fong 1 waa 4 , born September 4, 1972 in North Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada ) is a Canadian actress .
Life
Yip was born to a Chinese father and a French-Canadian mother. Through music and a degree in political science, she came to acting and initially stood in front of the camera for commercial productions. In 1994 she took part in an international casting for the Jackie Chan film Rumble in the Bronx , which was then being shot in Vancouver , and eventually got the role of Nancy . The success of the film in Asia and later also in the United States helped the actress to gain international fame and also earned her two nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards for "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" and "Best Young Actor".
In the following years, Yip lived in Hong Kong and stood there in front of the camera for various action productions , including in Black Mask (1996) at the side of Jet Li . Shortly after its release, she returned to Canada to pursue her acting career there. Since then she has appeared in numerous films and television series, but mostly in supporting roles. In the series Freedom (2000) and Flatland (2002) Yip got bigger roles, but both were canceled after only one season. In the third season of the Smallville series , she was in a recurring role as Dr. See Lia Teng . For her appearance in the television film A Beachcombers Christmas (2004), the actress was nominated at the Canadian Leo Awards 2005 for "Best Supporting Female Role". Between 2007 and 2008 she was seen in the series Blood Ties in the role of Kate Lam , most recently she had guest appearances in the series Caprica (2010), Sanctuary - Wächter der Kreaturen (2011) and Fringe - Grenzfalls of the FBI (2011).
