Franz Egon von Fürstenberg (Vicar General)

Franz Egon von Fürstenberg (born December 15, 1702 , † October 10, 1761 in Aachen ) was cathedral dean and vicar general in Münster.

Life

Franz Egon, Imperial Baron of Fürstenberg, was a son of Paderborn Colonel Stable Master Ferdinand von Fürstenberg (1661–1718) zu Schnellenberg and Waterlappe and Maria Theresa von Westphalen zu Fürstenberg (1663–1737). His brother Baron Hugo Franz von Fürstenberg (1692–1755) was cathedral sexton in Münster and capitular in Hildesheim and Paderborn , Christian Franz Dietrich (1689–1755) Reichshofrat and Erbdrost , Wilhelm Franz (1684–1707) Canon, Ferdinand Anton (1683–1711) ) Canon, Friedrich Christian (1700–1742) Elector of Cologne Minister, and Friedrich (1685–1706) Canon. Franz Egon attended the Jesuit high school in Siegen from 1715 to 1717 , studied at the University of Cologne from 1718 to 1720 , from 1722 to 1723 at the University of Salzburg and from 1724 to 1725 at the Collegium Germanicum in Rome . In 1720, after the resignation of his brother Christian Franz Theodor, he received his canon position in Münster ( revolt August 27, 1720, emancipation July 10, 1725), in 1721 also in Halberstadt and Paderborn and in 1734 a cathedral canonical in Hildesheim. There he became a cathedral scholar in 1742 . He was also provost of the Busdorf collegiate monastery in Paderborn, commander of the Order of Michael and held the title of a secret court and war councilor from the Electorate of Cologne-Münster.

The Cologne Elector Clemens August von Bayern as Bishop of Münster appointed Fürstenberg on May 30, 1737 as the successor to the late Nikolaus Hermann von Ketteler as Vicar General and Siegler, although the cathedral chapter had emphatically favored the cathedral dean Friedrich Christian Joseph von Galen. On March 12, 1748 the Münster cathedral chapter elected him cathedral dean. Fürstenberg held both offices until the elector's death on February 6, 1761. Afterwards he led the government of the bishopric of Münster as a capitular vicar , was also considered as a candidate for bishopric, but suffered in February d. J. had a severe stroke , the consequences of which he died on October 10th. J. died in Aachen.

Fürstenberg bequeathed his extensive and valuable book collection and that of his brother Hugo Franz, who died before him, to the former academy in Münster (so-called “Bibliotheca Fuerstenbergica”). There it should be kept in a safe room under the supervision of a reliable clergyman. It is now in the Münster University Library.
