Franz von Hartmann

Franz von Hartmann (from 1875: Imperial Knight of Valpezon and Rozbierschitz) (born March 24, 1808 in Würzburg , † June 26, 1895 in Graz ) was an Austrian lawyer.

Life

Franz von Hartmann was the son of the civil servant Friedrich Ludwig (Ritter von) Hartmann (born December 31, 1773 in Ulm , † June 26, 1844 in Kirchschlag ). He was brought up by the Augustinian canon Jodocus Stülz , among others , studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate there . During his studies in Vienna he belonged like his brother Friedrich (Fritz, 1805-1850) to the closer circle of friends around the composer Franz Schubert (as well as Joseph von Spaun , Franz von Schober , Eduard von Bauernfeld and Moritz von Schwind ), the Hartmann brothers also accepted participated in numerous Schubertiads .

Among other things, he worked as district court president in Korneuburg . In 1844 he became a regional judge in Linz , in 1847 a higher regional judge in Linz and president of the Wels district court . 1854 Hartmann was a member of the Supreme Court in Vienna appointed.

Von Hartmann was the founder of the Catholic Association in Linz in 1849. From October 2nd to 5th, 1849, he presided over the third German Katholikentag in Regensburg together with Josef Theodor Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg and, as sole president, the fifth Katholikentag in Mainz from October 7th to 10th, 1851.

A large part of Hartmann's detailed diary as well as his correspondence with his family (his parents, his sister Anna, who is a highly talented singer, a married Countess Revertera, and the brothers Friedrich and Ludwig and his sister Therese) have been preserved. In addition, after his retirement in 1870, he wrote an extensive family chronicle that his father had already begun.

He was an honorary member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Carolina Graz in the ÖCV .
