Frauenaurach is a district of the city of Erlangen and covers an area of ​​5.49 km². It is located seven kilometers southwest of the city center of Erlangen in the valley of the Middle Aurach .

The name of the district goes back to the Aurach and a nunnery, donated by Herdegen von Gründlach in 1267 and occupied by the Dominican Order via Engelthal Monastery in 1271. (Women Plus ahd. Aue = meadow and Ache = river, stream)

In 1972 the community had a total of 3387 inhabitants. On July 1, 1972, it was incorporated into the city of Erlangen as part of the municipal reform.

  • The monastery church, the construction of which began in the high Middle Ages, exists in the Protestant community of Frauenaurach. It is dedicated to the evangelist Matthew. Originally it was in the area of ​​a nunnery that was built around 1267 ( Frauenaurach Monastery ).

Infrastructure and traffic

Frauenaurach has a primary school and two kindergartens. In addition to regular bus connections to Erlangen, Herzogenaurach and the surrounding towns, the Frauenaurach train station on the Erlangen-Bruck-Herzogenaurach railway line was served until passenger traffic was discontinued in 1984 . Frauenaurach is located on the Main-Danube Canal and has two trimodal freight traffic centers, the Erlangen port and the Frauenaurach site . A connection to passenger shipping is also possible at the Erlangen site .
