Friedhelm Peter Nieske (born June 18, 1954 in Ketzin / Havel ; † April 29, 2020 in Wesseling ) was a German drummer and music producer who has worked with many nationally and internationally known artists.

Career

After he had started drumming in a tamboucorps in his youth and had his first band experience , Nieske joined the band Clark Benson of his friend Hans-Günther Boddin ( guitar ) in 1974 and replaced Wolfgang Hieronymi (later Satin Whale, goose bumps ) on drums . Together with Peter Wolff ( bass / vocals ) and Ulrich Henß ( keyboard , later replaced by Heinz-Gerd Kühnen) he celebrated his first musical successes. This also included appearances in Bonn's Hofgarten and on the Loreley , with tens of thousands of spectators at large demos and festivals . However, the band broke up shortly before signing a record deal .

In 1979 he played together with Brian Williams (guitar / vocals), whom he had already met in the NEON group, in the band Rotor. Other members included a. Harri Bauer (bass), Heinrich Bellinghausen (keyboard) and today's guitarist from Brings , Harry Alfter. The formation made a name for itself in the Bonn area and beyond. After the departure of Brian Williams, Nieske continued to make music with the other members of Rotor, now under the name Grain. With Harry Alfter and Heinrich Bellinghausen, Friedhelm Nieske took part in 1983 , under the pseudonym "Friedhelm Und", also in the production of the album Zäh und & Krank by the group Einfach und Tastlos. Mainly shaped by the sometimes very controversial and political lyrics of the singer, Martin "Osti" Osteroth, this album was popular with many people. The great commercial success did not materialize despite well-known guest musicians such as the guitarist Rocco Klein ( Bröselmaschine , Klaus Lage Band , Birth Control ) who died in 2015 .

Friedhelm Nieske decided the following year to work more intensively with Mysterious Party and thus never became a full member of Einfach & Tastlos. Mysterious Party (Liliane Schafiya, vocals / Martin Witberg, keyboard / Claudio Chariarse, guitar / Acki Königs, bass / Ide Lüdige, guitar, vocals, keyboard and violin ) toured throughout Germany over the next two years. Due to time problems and the pressure of having to work normally besides touring, the band broke up, which is why Nieske joined the John Suess Band some time later. The group was able to assert itself through unique interpretations of well-known songs by Jimi Hendrix , Jefferson Airplane and many others in the regional area and secure a few appearances, including a 60-minute special on Radio Bonn Rhein-Sieg. In addition to the singer, guitarist and namesake John Suess, Gerd Sauerborn (guitar), Michael Klein (keyboard) and Peter Wolff (bass), with whom Nieske had already played at Clark Benson in the 1970s, also played. Due to many private difficulties, including Friedhelm Nieske himself, the formation broke up in 1992 after three years.

After a few smaller projects and the attempt to revive Clark Benson, Friedhelm Nieske founded the progressive rock project HAL's Voice together with Ivo Breitsameter (guitar), Harry Hartmann (bass / vocals) and Konstantin Pannasch (guitar) in 2008 . Three years and some personnel restructuring later, the debut album Monolith was released. Bernhard Marx (keyboard / vocals), Isak Peñalver (guitar) and Harry Hartmann, who were still involved in the production of this CD, are now pursuing their own projects. The second album, The Upcycling, will be released in September 2016. Friedhelm Nieske worked with many musicians who are also known internationally.
