Friedrich Ackermann (born December 25, 1866 in Bandels , Preussisch Eylau district , † April 9, 1931 in Stettin ) was a German local politician and Lord Mayor of Stettin.

Life

Friedrich Ackermann came from a Mecklenburg family of civil servants and was related by marriage to merchant families in Danzig . At first he studied natural sciences in Zurich , then from 1886 law in Munich , Leipzig and Göttingen and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD . During his studies he became a member of the striking student associations Munichia Munich ( CC , now part of Bayreuth) and Cheruscia-Göttingen. After completing his studies, he did a year of military service and was then from 1890 court trainee, from 1895 court assessor in West Prussia . In 1896 he took over the office of city council in Gdansk. In 1907 he held his first position as mayor for three months in Rathenow .

When Hermann Haken resigned the mayor of the city of Stettin in 1907 , Friedrich Ackermann became his successor. He held this office for 23 years. During this time he tried to keep the high position of the city and to develop new areas, which he succeeded in an impressive way. As Lord Mayor, he represented his city from 1907 to 1918 in the Prussian mansion .

Ackermann was also a long-time member of the provincial parliament of the Pomerania province . From 1910 to 1920 he was elected as a representative of the city of Szczecin in the provincial parliament, after the change in electoral law from 1921 until 1931 on the party list of the German People's Party (DVP) . From 1910 to 1920, as well as 1926 and 1929, he was deputy chairman of the provincial parliament, 1930 and 1931 second deputy chairman.

One of his great achievements was the modernization of the port and the transport network. Ackermann initiated the development of a residential area in the area of ​​what is now the Pogodno (Braunsfelde) district, which is still attractive today and which is named Ackermannshöhe in recognition of the mayor's merits. In 1931 he was made an honorary citizen of Szczecin.
