Friedrich Bölling

Wilhelm Karl Ernst Friedrich Bölling (born February 18, 1844 in Mayen ; † May 7, 1899 in Dorsten ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

After his upbringing in his parents' house, Bölling attended high schools in Aachen and Düsseldorf as well as the Polytechnic in Zurich . On April 17, 1863 he joined the 2nd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 28 of the Prussian Army and on October 11, 1864, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant . As such, Bölling took part in the war against Austria in 1866 and was slightly wounded in the battle of Königgrätz .

After the peace treaty , from December 8, 1866 to September 9, 1869, he was assigned to the Jülich NCO School as a supervising officer and to the Weißenfels NCO School in the same capacity until July 23, 1870 . On the occasion of the mobilization , Bölling then returned to his regiment and took part in the war against France . In the battle of Gravelotte he suffered a minor wound and acted as a company commander from August 19, 1870 for the duration of the war. Shortly thereafter, Bölling was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class, for his achievements .

Bölling was regimental adjutant from July 30, 1872 to January 21, 1876 and was appointed as a captain on April 13, 1876 company commander. On July 21, 1887 he was added to the regiment as a surplus major and a year later transferred to the 6th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 68 . From October 15, 1888 to December 16, 1892, Bölling commanded the III. Battalion in the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress . Subsequently, he was transferred back to the 2nd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 28 and was commissioned with the function of the regular staff officer . With his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Bölling was confirmed in this position on January 27, 1893. On July 14, 1895 he was appointed colonel and commander of the infantry regiment "Margrave Karl" (7th Brandenburg) No. 60 stationed in Weißenburg . On the occasion of the festival of the Order, King Wilhelm II awarded him the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, on January 23, 1899 . On January 27, 1899, Bölling was promoted to major general commander of the 79th Infantry Brigade in Paderborn . He died unexpectedly on May 7, 1899 during a maneuvering trip.
