Friedrich Beyer (musician)

Friedrich "Fritz" Beyer (born October 9, 1929 ; † August 2, 2010 in Vienna ) was an Austrian jazz musician ( woodwind , pianist ) and radio host. He has emerged as an accomplished soloist especially on the tenor saxophone .

Beyer began his career in the bebop big band of singer Gert Steffens. Around 1960 he led his Fritz Beyer Quartet , which played in the style of Stan Getz . He then worked in the big bands of Heinz Neubrand / Viktor Plasil , Richard Oesterreicher and Karel Krautgartner , with whom he went to ORF . In the 1980s and 1990s he was responsible for radio programs such as Big Band Classics . He also belonged to the groups of Teddy Ehrenreich , Martin Breinschmid , Bill Grah , Michael Starch, Sigi Maron , Elly Wright , the Jazz Amateurs and the Classic Swing Serenaders . In addition, he played with traveling stars such as Sir Charles Thompson , Harry Sweets Edison and Barney Kessel in Vienna's Jazzland . As a studio musician, he was also involved in albums by Claudius Alzner, Erika Pluhar , Toni Stricker , Karl Hodina and Geduldig un Thimann . Beyer was buried at the Stammersdorfer Zentralfriedhof (group B, row 2, number 23) in Vienna.
