Friedrich Ernst von Wrangel

Friedrich Ernst von Wrangel (born April 7, 1720 in Ambothen / Livonia , † January 13, 1805 in Kolberg ) was a Prussian major general and most recently in command of Kolberg.

Life

origin

He was the son of Ewald Christoph von Wrangel (* October 12, 1674; † June 2, 1760 in Ambothen / Livonia ) and his wife Marie Luise, born von Henning (* September 19, 1689; † January 23, 1748) from the Home of Groß-Warriben. His father was a landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, lieutenant colonel and heir to Abellen in Livonia.

Military career

Wrangel came on September 11, 1738 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "de la Motte" . In the First Silesian War he fought in the battle of Mollwitz and Chotusitz as well as in the siege of Brieg . On August 13, 1744 he became an ensign and as such he fought in the Second Silesian War near Hohenfriedberg and Thrush . Between the wars he rose 1,752 on March 30, second lieutenant , and on May 20, 1755 First Lieutenant on. During the Seven Years' War Wrangel fought in the battle of Lobositz and Prague and in the battle of Neustadt. He was seriously wounded in the battle at Moys on September 7, 1757, but was awarded the Pour le Mérite order for his bravery . On January 2, 1758 he was staff captain and on August 29, 1760 captain and company commander .

After the war, Wrangel became a major on May 8, 1768 . On December 11, 1773, he came to the "Braunschweig-Bevern" infantry regiment as commander of the 2nd battalion . On January 12, 1777 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and as such took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On July 5, 1779, Wrangel became a colonel and rose to regimental commander on December 12, 1783. But on January 13, 1787, he was appointed commandant of Kolberg with a salary of 1,000 thalers, and on June 7, 1787, he was promoted to major general. He stayed there until December 24, 1804 when he received his resignation , and he was able to keep his previous income. But he died on January 13, 1805 in Kolberg.

Wrangel married Sophie Luise Elisabeth von Below (born August 26, 1752 - April 26, 1805) in Stettin on July 2, 1773, from the Reetz family. She was a daughter of Martin Friedrich von Below (* August 12, 1703; † January 16, 1768) and Sophie Friederike von Boehn (* October 1, 1728; † February 8, 1788). The following children were born from the marriage:
