Friedrich Hiddemann
Friedrich Peter Hiddemann (born October 4, 1829 in Düsseldorf ; † January 19, 1892 there ) was a German painter and lithographer of the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Hiddemann was the son of a Düsseldorf musician who initially planned a musical career for him. Nevertheless, he learned to draw in a preparatory class with Johann Peter Götting in order to then become a student at the art academy in his hometown. From 1848 he was u. a. Student of Theodor Hildebrandt and Wilhelm von Schadow . In 1856 Hiddemann finished his studies and in the same year went on a longer study trip, which took him through France , Belgium and the Netherlands .
After returning to Germany, Hiddemann settled in Düsseldorf as a freelance artist. His son Benno was born there in 1861 , who also appeared as a painter after 1900. In Hiddemann's early work, historical subjects dominate ; later he turned increasingly to genre painting . Despite the sometimes simple composition, Hiddemann designed his pictures atmospherically, whereby the humor was seldom missing.
Hiddemann often made folk scenes from his homeland, the Rhine Province, a theme . He did commissioned work as an illustrator for several publishers ; to be mentioned here u. a. the 35 woodcuts with which he illustrated Fritz Reuter's Ut mine Stromtid .
Several of his pictures found wide dissemination through engravings made of them. Robert Trossin manufactured a. a. The quartet , Fritz Dinger about the picture from the old days . His most famous work, Prussian Advertisers under Frederick the Great (1873), was also reproduced several times.
Hiddemann's pictures were represented at domestic and foreign exhibitions, for example at the Metropolitan Sanitary Fair 1864 in New York City .
