Frederick IV (Lorraine)
Frederick IV , known in France as Ferry IV. Le lutteur (born April 15, 1282 in Gondreville , † August 23, 1328 in Paris ) was Duke of Lorraine from 1312 to 1328. He was the son of Duke Theobald II and Isabelle de Rumigny.
Life
When the double election to succeed Henry VII took place in Frankfurt and Bonn in October 1314 , Frederick IV was on the side of his brother-in-law, the Habsburg Frederick the Fair . In the Battle of Mühldorf (September 28, 1322) he stood on the side of the losers and - like his brother-in-law - was taken prisoner. The mediation of the French King Charles IV led to his quick release, which was, however, on the condition that he stayed out of the affairs of the empire in the future - what the turn of Lorraine to France, which under his grandfather Friedrich III. started strengthening and consolidating.
In 1324 he took part in a French campaign against the English in Guyenne under the command of Charles of Valois . From 1324 to 1326 he was involved in the war of the four lords against the city of Metz . In 1328 - after the death of Charles IV - he was on the side of Philip of Valois , who was called Philip VI. then became king of France.
