Friedrich Karl Andreas von Wichert (born March 19, 1789 in Heiligenbeil , † January 2, 1861 in Marienfelde ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian captain August Friedrich von Wichert (1756-1801) and his wife Maria Juliane, née Wenicke (* 1770).

Military career

After the death of his father on June 1, 1802, Wichert was accepted as a corporal in the Fusilier Battalion No. 11 of the Prussian Army . In the Fourth Coalition War he earned the Medal of Merit in the battle near Waltersdorf and took part in the defense of Danzig . On February 9, 1807, he was transferred to the 6th Fusilier Battalion as Second Lieutenant .

After the Peace of Tilsit he was in the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment from January 22 to March 27, 1808 and then on foot in the Guard Regiment . Shortly before the wars of liberation began , he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 16, 1813 . He fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Kulm , Leipzig and Paris . He acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class from Großgörschen and the Cross 1st class from Paris. At that time he was on April 14, 1814 staff captain and on April 10, 1815 captain and company commander .

On October 9, 1817, Wichert received the French order pour le mérite militaire and rose to major at the end of February 1818 . He was considered a good drill master and was sent to Posen on April 13, 1818 . Together with two drummers and two whistles, he had to show the musicians of the infantry regiments how to strike properly. He was then appointed instructor of the Guard. On January 1, 1820, he was aggregated on foot to the 1st Guard Regiment and transferred as a commander to the newly established training infantry battalion. On October 16, 1820, he ensured that non-commissioned officers, minstrels and members of the battalion received permanent badges and that they would later wear them with their regiments. The badge consisted of a string the color of the regimental number and was worn on the armpits. The badge was retained until the army was disbanded in 1918/19. In addition, on December 9, 1820, he received a bonus of 100 Friedrichsdor . In 1825 he became seriously ill and had to be replaced. After a long vacation, he recovered and returned to the army.

On March 30, 1826, he was transferred to Glogau as 2nd in command. He proved himself there when it came to floods in Silesia, on January 18, 1830 he received the Red Eagle Order III. Class. On March 30, 1837 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on March 30, 1839 to colonel . On December 30, 1841 he got his departure with the character of major general. He received the statutory pension and a one-time bonus of 500 thalers. He died on January 2, 1861 in Berlin-Marienfelde. He was buried in the cemetery of the Marienfelde village church (Berlin-Tempelhof).

Wichert married Henriette Karoline Schulze (1784–1862) in Potsdam on May 27, 1815, the daughter of Gottfried Schulze, the war councilor of the Kurmark.
