Friedrich Ostermann (Bishop)
Friedrich Ostermann (born June 21, 1932 in Münster ; † October 22, 2018 ibid) was auxiliary bishop of the Münster diocese and regional bishop of the Münster- Warendorf region .
Life
Friedrich Ostermann graduated from high school Paulinum in 1952 , studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and was ordained priest on February 11, 1958 by Bishop Michael Keller . After a temporary job in Bockum-Hövel (Herz-Jesu-Kirche) followed chaplain stations in Emsdetten (Marienkirche) from 1958 to 1962, Senden (St. Laurentius) from 1962 to 1967 and as vicar in Telgte (St. Clemens) from 1967. 1969 he became pastor in Rheine (Herz-Jesu-Kirche) and in 1975 dean in the dean's office in Rheine.
On 27 June 1981 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Dolia and Auxiliary Bishop of Münster. On September 13, 1981 he received the episcopal ordination from Bishop Reinhard Lettmann ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Trier , Hermann Josef Spital , and the Münster auxiliary bishop Alfons Demming . As regional bishop he was responsible for the district deans of Münster and Warendorf.
From 1981 Ostermann was the resident cathedral capitular at the Hohen Domkirche in Münster. From 1981 to 2011 he was the diocesan director of the Pontifical Work for the Propagation of the Faith and head of the Mission , Development, Peace department in the Episcopal General Vicariate in Münster. In 1984/85 he was chairman of the Bonifatiuswerk and diocesan director of the Bonifatiuswerk for children in the diocese of Münster. In 1993 he was appointed director of the Confraternitas Sacerdos Bonae Voluntatis . From 2001 to 2006 he was chairman of the journalistic commission of the German Bishops' Conference and chairman of the jury of the Catholic Media Prize . From 2003 to 2007 he was also dean of the Paulus Cathedral in Münster.
In conceptual discussions Ostermann and the composer Ludger Stühlmeyer created the basis for a renewed reception of the Gospels - cantatas for children in the Catholic liturgy .
On the occasion of his 75th birthday on June 21, 2007, he submitted to Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop, which he accepted on July 18 of the same year. After his retirement he continued to live in Münster.
Ostermann was a member of the Catholic student associations KStV Franko-Silesia-Breslau et Eresburg Münster, KStV Westmark Bonn and KStV Germania Münster in the KV .
