Friedrich Sachs

Friedrich Karl Wilhelm Sachs (born December 12, 1821 in Karlsruhe , † April 26, 1893 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Friedrich was a son of the Baden major Wilhelm Sachs († 1841) and his wife Friedrike, née Weiß († 1854).

Military career

Sachs attended the lyceum and the polytechnic high school in Karlsruhe. After graduating, he joined the Leib Grenadier Regiment of the Baden Army as a grenadier on April 1, 1838 and advanced to lieutenant by the end of August 1840 . For further training, he completed the higher war school in Karlsruhe from November 1842 to August 1845 and was promoted to first lieutenant in the meantime. On November 4, 1845 he was assigned to the Quartermaster General and then to the Operations Office of the VIII Army Corps on April 2, 1848 . Sachs took part in the battles at Michelbach and Gernsbach in 1849 during the suppression of the Baden Revolution . Since June 22, 1849 he was in the headquarters of General von Peucker and on August 13, 1849, he moved to the Baden General Staff. He was transferred to the 2nd Infantry Regiment as a captain on July 1, 1852 and promoted to major regular staff officer in the 2nd Fusilier Battalion on February 16, 1862. On January 31, 1864, he was appointed battalion commander in the Leib Grenadier Regiment. In this capacity, Sachs led his battalion in the 1866 war against Prussia near Hundheim , Werbach and Gerchsheim . On June 11, 1866 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on April 26, 1867 appointed commander of the hunter battalion. This was followed by a position as commander of the 5th Infantry Regiment from March 10, 1868 , where he was promoted to colonel on June 20, 1869 .

During the war against France , Sachs led his regiment in front of Strasbourg and in the battles near Wörth , the Lisaine , Colmar, the Ognon near Dijon, Pasques, Autun, Chateau Neuf and Villersexel .

Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army after the peace agreement between Baden and Prussia and on July 15, 1871, he was appointed commander of the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113. In position à la suite of his regiment, Sachs was appointed commander of the 35th Infantry Brigade on January 15, 1874 and in this capacity promoted to major general on May 2, 1874 . In approval of his resignation , he was put up for disposition on January 14, 1879 with the character of Lieutenant General . On August 3, 1882, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. He died on April 26, 1893 in Freiburg im Breisgau.

Sachs was married to Laura Wirth. The children Alfred (* 1848), Hermine (* / † 1850) and Laura (* 1862) emerged from the marriage.
