Friedrich Wilhelm von Gilsa (born April 16, 1808 in Kassel , † June 2, 1886 in Gilsa ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Georg von Gilsa (1775-1812) and his wife Clementine, born von Cronenberg (1774-1832). His father was a Westphalian colonel and commander of the 1st Cuirassier Regiment .

Military career

Gilsa graduated from high school in Marburg and was employed on April 1, 1825 as a simple shooter in the 3rd Rifle Division of the Prussian Army in Wetzlar . He embarked on a career as an officer, was promoted to secondary lieutenant on September 17, 1827 and as such was from October 20, 1833 adjutant of the 4th Rifle Division, also stationed in Wetzlar. From April 7, 1842, he was employed as an adjutant in the Luxembourg governorate . On May 28, 1842, he was promoted to prime lieutenant . Leaving his position as adjutant, Gilsa was transferred to the 8th hunter division on April 24, 1845. From this department the 8th Jäger Battalion was formed , in which Gilsa was active as a captain and company commander from November 12, 1848 . With the battalion he was involved in the suppression of the revolutionary unrest in Iserlohn . Following this, the battalion was relocated to the southwest and took part in the battles against insurgents at Philippsburg , Waghäusel , Durlach , Bischweier and Kuppenheim during the Baden Revolution . For this Gilsa was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV Class with Swords.

With his promotion to major on March 15, 1853, Gilsa was commander of the 8th Jäger Battalion. After handing over command to his successor, Max von Witzleben , Gilsa was given command of the fusilier battalion of the 26th Infantry Regiment in Magdeburg on August 11, 1857 . In this position, promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 22, 1858 , Gilsa was commander of the 26th Landwehr Regiment from June 14, 1859 for the duration of the mobile relationship on the occasion of the Sardinian War . Under position à la suite , he was entrusted with the command of the 36th Infantry Regiment on May 8, 1860 , and was appointed regimental commander on July 1, 1860 with the promotion to colonel.

Gilsa already took his leave on August 18, 1860, which was granted to him with the statutory pension in order to be able to manage his homonymous property. He was given permission to wear his army uniform. In addition, on September 14, 1878, he was given the character of major general.

Gilsa had married Friederike Freiin von Wittgenstein (1817-1906) on May 25, 1839 in Wetzlar. The following children were born from the marriage:
