action

Dan Sanders, a Chicago real estate developer and employee of the allegedly green construction company Lyman Enterprises, is hired by CEO Neal Lyman to convert the Rocky Springs forest into a residential complex. Dan's son Tyler resents the move until he meets Amber, who, however, is not very enthusiastic about his father's plan. His wife, Tammy, is unhappy in Rocky Springs, she misses her life in Chicago. But Dan did the math without the animal inhabitants, who are led by a raccoon and refuse to watch their forest being destroyed.

They manage to turn the tables by disrupting Dan's progress, interrupting his conferences and humiliating him. But neither his family nor the therapist Dr. Christian Burr believe Dan because the animals always suddenly disappear when he wants to show them to others. After some investigation by Amber, Tyler tells his father that Rocky Springs is a forest reserve and warns him that many have already tried to conquer it but failed. Dan initially ignores this, but after an attack by a bear that locks him up in an overturned portable toilet, Dan signs the order to instruct a sergeant to catch and imprison all animals.

Meanwhile, Tammy is forced to organize an "eco-friendly" fair with the senile teacher Mrs. Martin at the high school sponsored by Lyman's company, unaware of Lyman's plans: he wants to cut down the forest for a new one To build housing estate with shopping center and golf course. Dan decides to release the animals. As a result, these wreak havoc on the eco-fair, which is why guests and entertainers are forced to flee. Lyman accidentally drugged sponsor Mr. Gupta after trying to break their deal. Lyman flees, but is pursued and attacked by the animals. After some beliefs from Amber and Tammy, Tyler eventually tells his father that he loves him.

Three months later, the forest is regained as a nature reserve, where Dan works as a park ranger. The poster promoting the conservation of the forest also states that anyone who breaks the rules will be fined $ 1 million.

Reviews

Purely fur thing received negative reviews. The Rotten Tomatoes website gave it a rating of 8% based on 93 reviews. The overall consensus is that the "thin premise" has been stretched far too far and therefore the film exposes both Brendan Fraser and the audience to "abuse". On Metacritic , where a total of 21 reviews were evaluated, the film received a rating of 23%.

Christian Horn wrote on film starts , Furry Vengeance was an "absolutely dispensable, characterless Comedy", "to belong to the monkey" spending Brendan Fraser. The animal attacks, which “consistently focused on infantile slapstick”, remained “strangely unimaginative”. Another problem is that the animals remain “all interchangeable and one-dimensional” and therefore appear as the “troublemakers” instead of humans. As a result, the film's “message trimmed to environmental awareness” never “recognizes the seriousness that would in any way satisfy the intended ecological message”. As a final rating, Horn awarded one of five possible stars.

Cinema was split on the film and said: “The way the forest dwellers drive the pitiful project manager insane with targeted guerrilla actions is a spectacle that you don't see every day, even in Hollywood comedies. After three quarters of an hour, the fun is over: In the second half, infantile slapstick triumphs over anarchic joke. ”The conclusion was therefore:“ Anarchic nonsense, which unfortunately runs out of breath halfway through. ”

The film service wrote: “A loud slapstick comedy that relies on slapstick and the appeal of computer tricks, with the help of which animals are humanized. The ecological topic takes a back seat and gives way to a flat parade of gags. "
