The Götzenbach is an approximately 8 km long stream in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the lower Lein from the left and north-northwest near Leinzell in the Ostalbkreis .

geography

course

The Götzenbach arises on the plateau of the Frickenhofer Höhe on the southern edge of the hamlet of Seifertshofen at about 528  m above sea level. NHN . In an initially quite flat course through the field, often next to field paths, it moves approximately southwards to just before Helpertshofen , where it is about 512  m above sea level. NHN begins to walk in a trained field-free hollow. As you pass the hamlet, a gallery on the run starts for the first time, soon afterwards, before Vellberg on the right slope, the valley forest of its now steep Kerbstal begins, which now runs almost to the mouth to the south-southeast.

By the side blades of the first major right-supply failure Haldenbach a bike path into the previously almost trackless valley descends, which now follows the creek until the end of the valley. Shortly thereafter, on the right side of the valley, there is the Götzenloch , one of the small cave formations that are not uncommon in the area under an erosion-resistant sandstone cover. Further down at the Götzenmühle , which is only about 3 hectares in size, the first of the two large tributaries to the right, the Eschbach , now flows from the village of Eschach on the left edge of the hill .

Then the forest in the valley closes again to the Götzenbach flood retention basin , also called Götzenbachsee , a lake usually a little over 3 hectares in size at just under 420  m above sea level. NHN , which, however, can grow to a size of 45 ha during floods. The other large left-hand Götzenbach tributary Büttenbach also flows into it through a partially open side valley. After another section of the forest valley, the Götzenbach changes to Flur on the western outskirts of Leinzell, crosses under the district road K 3258 through the Leintal and then flows straight to about 397  m above sea level. NHN from the left in the lower Lein .

With a length of 8.2 km and a total gradient of about 131 meters, the Götzenbach has an average bed gradient of about 16 ‰.

Catchment area

The Götzenbach has a catchment area of 18.1 km², which in natural terms lies in the sub-area of Frickenhofer Höhe of the eastern foothills of the Alb . It stretches almost 7.5 km to the south-southeast from about Seifertshofen to the mouth at Leinzell. Across this is everywhere less than 4 km wide. In it, the Götzenbach runs closer to the right watershed, which is no more than 1 km away, while the left reaches up to 3 km from the Götzenbach through the large tributaries Eschbach and Büttenbach.

The Götzenbach has created one of the left, heavily dug forest valleys that run towards the Lein in a ridge-like direction in an approximately south-southeast direction, on its upper course through the Welzheimer Forest , here through the pronounced notch valleys of the very flat and rather forestless Frickenhofer Höhe , which is why the watersheds on both sides except are nowhere in relief at the inlet to the Leintal.

The north-north-eastern watershed runs through Seifertshofen and north of Kemnaten and Eschach close to the waste to the broad basin of the Lein outflow stream Kocher , to which its left tributaries from the Krempelbach up to the Argenbach run from here . Then the sheath bends south in front of the deepening of the downward Lein tributary Federbach and runs past Holzhausen and through Göggingen and, after a steep descent through Leinzell, already in its valley basin to the confluence with the Lein.

From this the right watershed then rises just as quickly to the northwest on the flat ridge in front of the valley of the next upwardly flowing and only short Leinzeller Laubach , after whose catchment area next to the central reaches of the Götzenbach meets that of the somewhat longer Sulzbach . From about the width of Ruppertshofen and further north is the catchment area of the "Gschwender" Rot and its left tributaries, including the very long Auerbach , which rises a little west of the Götzenbach.

On the north side of the catchment area is also its greatest height of approx. 538  m above sea level. NHN a little east of Seifertshofen. The flat edge heights of the Frickenhofer Höhe fall in the direction of the stream to the edge of the Leintal to about 490  m above sea level. NHN flat, only then does the steeper incline begin. The area is clearly divided into these plateaus on both sides of the valley, where agriculture is predominantly carried out, and the wide, largely forest-filled valley cut of the Götzenbach and the lower valleys of Eschbach and Büttenbach.

Eschach have a share in the area , then Ruppertshofen for a short time on the right and Täferrot a little longer , Göggingen again on both sides. The only small estuary triangle belongs to Leinzell , like the others a municipality in the Ostalb district .

geology

The course of the Götzenbach begins in the loess sediment layer that rests on the Schwarzjuraplatte of the Frickenhofer Höhe in some islands, some of which are quite large. On the southern course, it first sinks slowly into the plain until it reaches the upper limit of the Oberkeuper at Helpertshofen and changes to the south-south-east course through its steep Kerbtal , after which it reaches its mouth in the Mittelkeuper.

In the upper valley, shortly after the inlet of the Fehlhaldenbach , lies the small Götzenloch spring cave on the right foot of the slope , which was created by washing out a softer layer of the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein formation ) under a covering, erosion-resistant layer; it is designated as a geotope. Source niches of this genesis are not uncommon in the Swabian-Franconian Forest and the surrounding landscapes with valleys in the upper Mittelkeuper.

Protected areas

Almost the entire valley basin is part of the Welzheimer Wald protected landscape area with Leintal . The northern, Eschacher and Ruppertshofener parts of the catchment area belong to the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park . There is a small water protection area in the area of the Götzenbach estuary.
