history

The place originated in the 8th century. The place name is probably made up of the personal name "Guckilo", the first settler, and the word "hurne". This means projection or terrace.

The first documentary mention was in 1232 in a certificate of division of the Würzburg bishop Hermann , in which Ebern was separated from the original parish of St. Kilian to Pfarrweisach and among other things "Gugelhurne" remained with the mother church. A Würzburg fief book from the years 1303/13 mentioned that a Rucheneker received the tithe in "Guggelhürn". In 1412 the brothers Apel and Heinz von Stein took tithe from "Gückelhorn". Around 1500 the Lords of Stein owned the village and in 1576 they received the tithe of 14 dwellings. In 1619 the properties included two courtyards and eight Sölden . The village was largely spared from destruction and looting during the Thirty Years' War .

In 1818 the community association Gückelhirn was established, consisting of Gückelhirn, Eselsmühle, Neumühle and the two Saar farms. Geroldswind and Todtenweisach with Wüstenbirkach joined this in 1820 . In 1862 the Ebern District Office was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian District Office . In 1840 Gückelhirn had 55 residential buildings and 132 residents. Little productive fields and several bad harvests led to a sharp decline in population from the middle of the 19th century.

In 1871 the place had 69 inhabitants and 65 buildings. He belonged to the district of the Catholic parish in Pfarrweisach, 5.5 kilometers away . The responsible Evangelical Lutheran parish was in Altenstein, 3.5 kilometers away . The Catholic school was in Geroldswind, the Protestant one in Todtenweisach. In 1898 Carl Otto von Deuster acquired the Carlshof, a manor that characterizes the town.

In 1900 the 976.62 hectare rural community Gückelhirn, which was the largest in area in Ebern Land, had 233 inhabitants, 88 of whom were Catholic. It consisted of seven places, the three villages Gückelhirn, Geroldswind and Todtenweisach and the four wastelands of Breitenbach, Großsaarhof, Neumühle and Wüstenbirkach. Kleinsaarhof and Eselsmühle were demolished at the end of the 19th century. The district of Gückelhirn had 39 inhabitants in 6 residential buildings. In 1925, 39 people lived in 5 residential buildings in the village.

In 1950 there were 6 residential buildings with 44 residents in the hamlet of Gückehirn. He was assigned to the Evangelical Lutheran parish and the Catholic parish Herz-Jesu in Maroldsweisach. In 1970 Gückelhirn had 32 inhabitants, in 1987 28 inhabitants and 8 residential buildings with 9 apartments. On July 1, 1972, the district of Ebern was dissolved and Gückelhirn came to the Haßberg district. On July 1, 1975, the community was incorporated into Maroldsweisach.
