Geroldswind is a district of the Lower Franconian market Maroldsweisach in the Haßberge district .

geography

The church village is located in the northeastern part of the Haßberge district in Weisachgrund on the southern slope of the Zeilberg . About 700 meters south of Geroldswind, the federal highway 279 runs from Breitengüßbach via Maroldsweisach to Fulda .

history

The place name indicates the establishment by Frankish settlers and probably refers to the landlord. It means "at the turn of a Gerold".

The first documentary mention was in 1151, when an "Erimbertus de Chlubisdorf" transferred his property in "Gerhartiswiniden" to the Banz monastery . The village lords changed in quick succession. 1303/13 Hermann Hunt de Sternberg owned three fiefs in "Gerbrehtswinden", in 1355 Hermannus de Sternberg received two estates in "Gerbrechtswinden". In 1415, Heintz von Stein received a quarter of the tithe from “Gerbotswind”. In 1495 Philip Truchsses received half a property from Wetzhausen , the lords of Fuchs moved into fiefs in 1536 and the diocese of Würzburg took tithe in 1575 in "Gerolswinde". In 1590 the Bundorffe Truchsessen had subjects in the place. Late 16th century the village belonged to centering boars .

In 1674 there were six households in Geroldswind. The fiefs belonged to the diocese of Würzburg and Count Götz. In 1799 the village had nine houses with 47 inhabitants. One house could be leased to Herr Truchseß on Bettenburg , the rest to the diocese.

The village already had its own schoolhouse, located right next to the chapel, before 1674. At the end of the 18th century, the children from Gückelhirn and Todtenweisach also attended school. Lessons only took place in winter. In 1837 Geroldswind built a new school building near the church. In 1935 the then private school was closed. In 1947, lessons were resumed with 21 children before the school was finally closed in 1968.

In 1820 Geroldswind joined the Gückelhirn community association founded in 1818, which was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Ebern in 1862 . Basalt mining in the community forest was done by hand from 1864.

In 1871 the place had 70 inhabitants and 33 buildings. The church village belonged to the district of the Catholic parish in Pfarrweisach, 7.0 kilometers away . The Catholic school was in town. The responsible Evangelical Lutheran parish was in Altenstein , 4.5 kilometers away , and the Protestant school was in Todtenweisach, 1.5 kilometers away. In 1900 the rural community Gückelhirn had 233 inhabitants, 88 of whom were Catholic. The district of Geroldswind had 85 inhabitants in 18 residential buildings. and in 1925 94 people lived in 18 residential buildings in the place. The village was assigned to the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Maroldsweisach, 2.0 kilometers away, and since 1912 has belonged to the district of the Catholic chaplaincy Herz-Jesu in Maroldsweisach, which was raised to a parish in 1951.

In 1950 there were 18 residential buildings with 122 residents in the church village. In 1970 Geroldswind had 114 inhabitants, in 1987 100 inhabitants and 25 residential buildings with 31 apartments. On July 1, 1972, the district of Ebern was dissolved and Gückelhirn came to the Haßberg district. On July 1, 1975, the municipality was incorporated with its Geroldswind district to Maroldsweisach.

Attractions

The Catholic branch church of St. John the Baptist is surrounded by the cemetery. It was built in the 18th century over the choir of a chapel. The retracted rectangular choir probably goes back to a medieval choir tower . The round choir arch probably dates from the 16th century. At the transition between the choir and the single-axis nave of the hall church, there is a slate, octagonal roof turret made of wood with a dome on the hipped roof . The furnishings in the late Rococo style with a pulpit , organ case and group of wooden figures were created around 1780. The altar has a classical tabernacle structure and houses relics of the relics of Saints Eugenius , Fructuosus of Braga and Theophilus of Adana .

A total of three architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian list of monuments .
