Günter Gueffroy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günter Gueffroy (* 1944 in Marienbad , Sudetenland ; † April 30, 2015 ) was a German photographer .

Life

Günter Gueffroy was born in 1944 in what is now Mariánské Láznĕ ( Czech Republic ). Unfortunately, only a few verifiable biographical data can be determined about Gueffroy. Accordingly, he completed an apprenticeship as a photo chemistry specialist, worked as a photo lab technician and later as a photographer or photo reporter for the daily newspaper Neues Deutschland . From 1974 he worked as a freelance photographer with a license. He wrote reports and soon portrayed the first prominent personalities. Later, well-known musicians from the former GDR stood in front of his camera , as well as television celebrities , ensemble members of the Friedrichstadtpalast or the GDR television ballet . Over 60 covers of the GDR record label AMIGA were designed with pictures by Geuffroy. Many of his photos were used in GDR magazines such as Melodie und Rhythmus , Neues Leben and FF , or on posters and autograph cards .

Gueffroy was also successful in the genre of nude photography . In 1984 a photo of him published in the magazine “Neues Leben” won the title “Most Beautiful Nude Photo” - the model for this was his long-term partner Simone Brackrog .After further publications of corresponding works in GDR magazines such as Das MAGAZIN or Neues Leben , he received an offer in 1988 for a four-page article entitled “Honis (Note: Honeckers ) beautiful daughters” for a West German illustrated magazine. This order and its extremely successful implementation helped Gueffroy to gain great recognition outside of the GDR - but also led to trouble with the GDR authorities.

On July 10, 1989, the editorial team of the West German magazine Playboy commissioned him to make recordings for the Playmate of the January 1990 issue - the then 21-year-old dental assistant Anja Kossak was chosenwhich was photographed by Gueffroy, thus Playboy's first GDR playmate, in the revolving door of the Berlin hotel The Westin Grand . This made Günter Gueffroy the first East German photographer whose photos were published in Playboy.

Günter Gueffroy lived in Berlin for a long time and moved to Klein Schulzendorf near Trebbin after German reunification . He died in the spring of 2015 at the age of 70 from complications from serious cancer .

After his death

Half a year after his death it became known that Gueffroy was allegedly listed as an unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security and spied under the code name " Werner " until 1989 - some of his reports were allegedly destroyed during the turning point.
