Güroymak (Turkish) or Norşin (from Armenian Նորշեն Norshen "New Village"; formerly also Çukur ) is a district town and a district in the Turkish province of Bitlis . Güroymak is located in the west of the province on the border with Mus . The city is home to about half of the district's population.

Dynasties and empires that ruled Güroymak were the Hittites , Urartians , Persians , Macedonians , Seleucids , Rome , Marwanids , the Ahlachahs , the Şerefhans , Ottomans , Russians and Turks . Güroymak has been a district by law since 1988.

As part of the “Kurdish initiative” of the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , the city has been officially referred to by its Kurdish-Armenian name Norşin since August 2009 .

The district was formed in July 19897 from the Bucak Çukur with its capital ( Bucak merkezi ). This Bucak was part of the central district ( Merkez ). The district is the smallest in the province, but has the third highest population. The population density is therefore more than twice as high as the provincial average of 42 inhabitants per square kilometer.

In addition to the district town, two other municipalities (small towns, Belediye ) also belong to the district: Günkırı with 5,076 (7 mahall ) and Gölbaşı with 4,905 inhabitants (6 mahall). The district finally includes 26 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 536 inhabitants. Five of them have more than a thousand inhabitants: Değirmen (2,401), Aşağıkolbaşı (1,132), Oduncular (1,085), Güzelli (1,034) and Yamaçköy (1,007 pop .).
