G20 summit in Buenos Aires 2018
The G20 summit in Buenos Aires 2018 ( English 2018 G20 Buenos Aires summit ) was the 13th summit of the group of the twenty most important industrialized and emerging countries on November 30th and December 1st, 2018. It was the first on South American soil.

During the G20 summit, the heads of government of Canada , Mexico and the United States signed the “ United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement ”, a free trade agreement which , once ratified , is intended to replace the provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) of 1994.
On the evening of November 30th, the 20 heads of government met for a gala dinner in the Teatro Colón , which was also attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel , who was late for the summit due to damage to the government aircraft Konrad Adenauer .
The summit was marked by bilateral talks between the heads of government and the associated delegations on the current conflicts between the nation states .
Results
The EU cited the commitment of the participating heads of state and government to reform the World Trade Organization (WTO) for better compliance with common rules as the greatest success .
Final declaration
In contrast to the previous summit, the joint declaration by the participants is no longer categorically against protectionism ; the United States' climate policy move away from the global climate agreement adopted by the international community in Paris in 2015 as the only participant in the G20 has been recorded again.
In the final document, the signatories u. a. record strong economic growth in the world, but point to rescue mechanisms that would have to take effect in the event of a recession and that have not yet been found. The Argentine government budgeted an amount of 112 million US dollars for the G20 summit. This included USD 40 million for catering, the gala dinner at the Teatro Colón, gifts for the delegations, translators, transfers and cleaning, and USD 43 million for security. The 84 assemblies that prepared the summit cost US $ 17 million and the salaries of the 70 staff who organized the summit cost US $ 12 million. Not included are the "additional expenses" for safety equipment that should be used after the summit, including 12 small Beechcraft T-6 Texan II aircraft from the US for 160 million US dollars, four patrol boats from Israel for 49 million US dollars and five Dassault fighter jets Super Étendard of France for USD 12.5 million.
criticism
Aid organizations such as Oxfam urged the reduction of the increasing differences between rich and poor in order to alleviate extreme poverty . Social injustice does not appear in the final declaration.
