G8 Summit in Birmingham 1998

The 1998 G8 Summit in Birmingham was the 24th summit of the Group of Eight heads of government . The meeting was held from May 15-17, 1998, chaired by UK Prime Minister Tony Blair . At this meeting, Russia was formally accepted as a participant in the G8.

During the summit, each of the eight participating heads of state or government planted a tree in the St Thomas' Peace Garden to represent their respective country of origin.
